Pen-y-Fan is a south Welsh mountain. A little heavy handed, but this was fun to paint.

Wow, Pen y fan is the highest peak in South Wales and situated in the beautifulBrecon Beacons. I'm delighted to say your picture captures the majestic beauty of this mountain Brent. It also brought back memories of a time when I was energetic and well enough to climb it.

Did you paint it from a photograph you took at one time?

Cheers Cx

I am working my way through the Welsh mountains that appealed in my younger, student day. The Rhinogs next?

I had a lovely chat with my father this evening, who was inspiring me with further techniques.

What a solid piece of work BrentW. It looks unmovable, just as the mountain is! I think it's a terrific idea to concentrate on Welsh mountains in all their majesty. Is your dad an accomplished artist too?

He is very accomplished but very traditional also. That is what I am struggling to avoid while having confidence in my 'semi-abstractions'. Boy, am I finding that challenging!

Here is one of my father's paintings. I think you can tell that our styles are quite different, his paintings being much more traditional.

A view of Staffa, with its basalt columns.

Very different but very lovely and very accomplished. This is what I love about art, and crafts too. Two people can look at the same subject so differently and the execution of the work is so varied. I always think about how wonderful that is when I watch Artist of the Year on TV.

Stay true to your heart BrentW! Art isn't a competition when all's said and done. Your work is equally beautiful, just different to your dad's style.
