I was feeling a bit miserable and went for a walk to lift my spirits. Whilst sitting on a log having a rest I decided I had to pull myself together and 'get a grip'.
I picked up a small, light stick and carried it home as a tangible reminder of my positivity. I had seen a lot of dog roses and other flowers in the hedgerows that day so I painted my stick and hung a few items from it that I had gathered.
My 'get a grip' stick is now hanging from a cupboard to encourage me to remain positive.
It seems a bit daft and certainly would in 'normal' times but then these are anything but normal times so anything that helps is fine.
I wonder what other things people are finding or making to remind them of positive thoughts?

Love lights in a bush idea too. We have some along our fence. I like this mismatched strings of lights, hopefully can add more before our guests come July 13th from the eastcoast here to Banks Oregon, USA. Told my hubby we need an accent color in the guest room and he said "How about yellow"? Love this idea, any shade of yellow accent project! He is awaiting a kidney transplant and his old friend is coming out here to test to donate to him. Then, a dear friend is visiting from Texas. Like when I visited France while in college at our tutor's daughters home in Caen. They had a sign on their porch that read "L'auberge" (The Hostel) because they had so many visitors. God only knows how many French students young and old her mom sent her way lol!~
I have multiples of solar powered lights in my back yard...... have a nice day...., take care to stay safe.... hoping your husband and his old friend match up for a transplant!😀🌈
Thank you so much. We are hoping and praying he is a match. He only has one day of testing here. The rest of the time is vacation for him and wife. We are happy to host these big-hearted people.
That's very pretty and a really good idea to keep your spirits up during challenging times.
As the garden centres were closed for months I have set seeds from last years flowers and am now reaping a reward having lots of plants that need potting on. Much too many for my needs and so my neighbours will benefit as I pass some around the street, and hopefully help to cheer us all up during the Summer months seeing lots of colourful flowers around here.
The plants aren't quite ready yet, but it will be a lovely surprise for them when I hand these over. It's sure to bring joy and lots of colour into the street later on.
Not a daft thing to do at all! There are many ways of dealing with a bit of depression. You recognised you were a bit down and found a way of dealing with it. In fact I think it' was an excellent idea. You connected with nature, picked up a stick and took it home. You then used your creative skills to turn it into a daily reminder to help you at a difficult time in your life. The time and patience needed to do this would have provided you with a sense of satisfaction The whole process would probably have helped to take your mind off those negative feelings. That simple, little stick will continue to help you long into the future
What a creative way to climb yourself out of a dark hole. I know you can do it. We all know we are steam engines that need to let out steam. So many ways to express ourselves. I love this one!
