I occasionally get a fake, mince and onion. Short crust. I don't eat meat. I think it tastes what I remember mince and onion use to taste like but it has been over 40 years, so it probably tastes nothing like meat. It tastes quite reasonable though.ππ
My mum's apple pie- shortcrust pastry. Sadly she's no longer with us and I can't make pastry like she didπ₯΄
Pumpkin pieπππ
Hi wiserlady, I need to be really careful around pastry these days but once in a while I make a 'sausage plait', which is filled with well seasoned pork sausage meat, onion, apple and herbs/spices. It's simple to make, with all the ingredients just combined and heaped in the centre of a sheet of ready rolled puff, then the outside edges are cut at an angle and folded across to look like a plait. And for shortcrust, a good old corned beef, onion and potato pie, which some time ago was recommended here on this community and has also become a firm favourite.
How about you? What's your favourite?
ive made them, also made breakfast pie with boiled eggs, baked beans, sausages, bacon, my favourite is shortcrust steak and kidney or a good steamed pud
Ooh yummy
hi jerry, used to make these, they are delicious, nice with chips and baked beans?
Hi wiserlady. Anything with shortcrust pastry - even cooked shortcrust pastry on its own! ππ
Lemon meringue pie π€© oh my goodness use cookies for the crust π
I have a little pie anecdote for you. Many years ago, my cousin went to the local butcher's shop where we lived in Launceston, Cornwall. They sold really lovely pies. He came home with a chicken and mushroom pie for his lunch. I will never forget how he cut the pie completely in half and all that was inside was one small button mushroom, all by itself! No chicken, no sauce, nothing! After his initial surprise, he returned to the butcher's and got a replacement, but for some reason I have always found it to be a really funny memory!ππΈ
That's hilarious Marnie22. I can't stop giggling. For surprise it's on a level with the time in a cafe when I wearily ordered a pot of tea, waited a bit for a brew, anticipating a nice strong cuppa, and out poured hot water. They'd forgotten to put the tea in the pot! π€£
A good quality pork pie.
Hi Wiserlady, I like Steak & kidney with suet pastry or a good old fashioned apple pie with bramley apples and shortcrust pastry.
