Grasses

I haven't posted much recently because I am coping with crippling pain in my left thigh. I have been referred to a physiotherapist who has requested and x-ray, while my oncologist has requested a CT-scan of my pelvis. Meanwhile, I am taking morphine.

But I have managed to paint occasionally. This sketch was me playing around with my chisel-edge brush, scraping, lifting and laying-down paint. I am quite proud of it, as it is a breakthrough for painting foregrounds in my pictures. It was also something of an exercise in mixing greens.

I would be proud of it also, the effect is very good. Brush, scrub and grasses can be difficult to capture. It's a lovely blend you have here. I am sorry to hear you are in pain Brent and I hope your investigations all come back fine.👍😊

Hello Brent, I did wonder if all was well not having read any recent postings from you. You are obviously going through a very difficult time and I am so sorry and I hope you get some answers and help from the Xray and scans.

. Although you will be in a lot of pain having been put on morphine you have found a way of helping yourself deal with this rotten, painful spell by using your paint brush. It can be rewarding experimenting and finding new ways of applying paint which is reflected in your post. The grasses look realistic and natural so its no wonder you are pleased with the result, I would be too. In fact, when I saw the grass it made me want to experience trying my hand at painting again. So much so that I have just ordered some new paints on line. So, your beautiful grass has had the effect of finally making me take the plunge to start painting again after 20 years. Thank you.

Thinking of you and hoping your next post will find you more comfortable with better news.

Hey, I only post those that I deem to be anything like successful. You should see the rest . . . or perhaps better not. As I am being continually advised, enjoy the journey more than the arrival.

So sorry your pain is restricting your activities at the moment Brent_Wilson. I hope that you can find some sort of relief soon to enable you to share some more of your lovely artwork with us. This is a lovely study of grasses. The colours are beautiful and you've really captured the essence of the way grass is! 🌈👍

Hi Brent,

Sorry to hear of your condition, I do hope that the morphine is effective. I love your work, it sounds very technical.

All the best 😊

I'm sorry to hear this, hoping you feel better soon Brent and also that the CT doesn't show anything of concern.

Brent … Sorry to hear of your extreme pain. Hope you soon find the cause with the planned tests. This is a lovely experiment you have done of grasses and their various colors. In a video I watched recently, the artist used a utility knife edge to “lift” cat whiskers when painting a cat, and they became a bright white. Interestingly, an art teacher once told me to never use white watercolor paint ~ to always leave/“use” the white of the paper! That was many, many years ago, though!
