Not Better

It’s not getting any better except for the fire retardant bombers that showed up to make drops on the fire closest to us. That was very welcomed, however when they circle your house it’s never a good thing.

Massive planes that fly about 100’ off the ground and into the fire. The pilots say it is like pushing an elephant around on ice.

Once we had the Mars Martin water bomber from Canada help out. The largest of all. They carry a huge amount of water. A very old sea plane. Flies low, slow, and loud. You definitely know it is coming and are happy about it.

We also have converted 737s (I think) for retardant drops. Those are also impressive flying 100’ off the ground.

You can see what we have to deal with if you look at Sonoma county fires, California. We are near the Walbridge Fire. The Meyers Fire is to the south and is a bit uncomfortably close. Also check Napa county if you are inclined.

The bad news is that we have the potential for another round of lightning at the beginning of this week.

I am thinking about moving to New Guinea. No taxes or fires. I don’t think they even have headhunters anymore.

Take care everyone.

Thank you. It will be worse before better I am afraid. I overheard the fire fighters saying they might get their butts kicked tonight in a nearby town.

They have been showing clips of it on our UK news and it looks horrendous and a very dangerous situation. We will all be thinking of your safety and hope you get some respite from the situation soon. 👍👍

Hi daveh121, I've been watching some of the news footage of your terrible situation. (A move to New Guinea might be a plan.) So good that you are managing to maintain a sense of humour in such frightening circumstances! Thinking of you all and I hope you and your property stay safe and unharmed. 🙏

Hi dave. Checked the news earlier and heard about the poor pilot who has lost his life. This is an awful shame and I feel so sorry for his family. Thinking of everyone involved in this and praying that you all get some heavy rain very soon. xx

Hi daveh121, I was watching the fires and the dropping of water and fire retardant by planes on my TV, (I live in England). I have visited California, I have a Auntie who lives in Sacramento and works on the news paper the B, I think that's what its called. I drove down to Mexico and had Surf and turf visited the Napa vine yards, so beautiful and wine is good as well. Stayed in LA and other places on the way back to Sacramento. I bought Californian poppy seeds that grow well here. Stay safe I will pray for you, Blessings, Andy.

Well, that sounds like you had a good time and tried to fit a lot of experiences in.

Yes, the B. As in Sacramento Bee. Good paper.

We are west of Napa which is seriously threatened. On the coast west of Santa Rosa.

Glad the seeds sprouted. That is fun to know that you have California poppies there.

Thanks.

Hello daveh121

My hat is off to the fire retardant bomber pilots. I my much younger days I worked as bomber drop communications to direct bombers in for drops. I fought fires in canyons where the wing tips only cleared the canyon wall by maybe 50-100 feet. If I told you how much each of those fire bombing runs cost, you would faint.

Such a worthwhile and needed profession you had. Thanks for all you have done to keep everyone safe.

The bombers are such a welcomed sight.

That is not a lot of room for error or vagrant wind gust. Darn good pilots and support people.

We have a 747 amongst others on our fires. 20,000 gallons in one shot. So helpful.

Oh my goodness Dave, I'm hoping that they manage to keep this under control and you and your loved ones stay safe.

I've just looked at the photos online, that's so scary. :(

Take care

Alicia

It is impressive. We are good for now. A nice big line around the fire. The other fire to the east is really annoying the town of Healdsburg and Forestville.

Hopefully everything works out ok.

in reply todaveh121

I'm so glad you're ok for now and really hope it stays that way.

I really hope some rain appears.

Stay safe and take care.

Blessings on you and your family for safety. We have family members who have been evacuated in Napa, and one is a firefighter.

Our daughter lost everything in the Paradise fire.

We moved to Puerto Rico and are awaiting a Tropical storm, 40+ mph winds.

God bless us all.

Hope they are. Things are improving. If we make it through the latest lightning storm tonight we should be good for awhile.
