I finished the training for the disaster assistance group this week. Have been monitoring fire info in Oregon (where I am), as the other side of the state blew up with incredible wildfires. It's likely worse in California, but 350,000 acres in 4 days (and a fire that ran 50 miles in two days) is pretty intense. One of our larger towns (82,000 people) has had to evacuate due to the fires.
I have friends in evacuation zones that I talked to last night. They don't have to go quite yet but I invited them to box up papers or things that would be hard to haul around with them and to ship it to my house 400 miles away for safekeeping. Also said if need be they could land here. Not sure how to make that work but we'll figure it out.
Otherwise, have been tending gardens a little (will be getting some straw today to put the garden space to bed), caring for horses and the cat, and fighting off a bit of depression. (I'm on top of it, just noticing some of the signs.)
In cheerier news, I sold my first piece of artwork this year. Most years (but this is not most years) I would have sold a few pieces by now, but it's great to know people still like them! I was encouraged enough by that to ask a local B&B owner who I know likes my stuff if (they) would like to have a half-dozen pieces for their rental, to sell on commission, as my work doesn't cost a lot and features local sketches. We'll see what they say. Trying something new is more energizing that being anxious about loss, I think. And I have been a bit anxious.
Here's to a rested, energized day.

Hi Hidden ! WOW, what an incredible thing you are doing training with a disaster assistance group! It's amazing that you are able to help people going through such a horrendous thing with the wildfires. I really hope your friends remain safe and things get better very soon.
Is the picture that you posted the one that you sold? If so, it's incredible. You have a real talent. I really what you said about trying something new being more energising than being anxious about loss. I think that's such a good philosophy and really important for us all to remember. I hope it really helps with your anxiety. Thank you for sharing your work and continue to do the amazing things you do. Hope you have a great weekend!
Lovely sketch Wallowa. Sorry to hear you've had a bit of depression but it's good that you're overcoming it.
Yes, the wildfires have been awful again, so many and I always think of the people and wildlife who have lost their lives, homes and habitats - so very sad. It's very thoughtful of you to offer to help your friends in that way, particularly as they live so far away - you are a good friend indeed.
Congratulations on selling your first piece of artwork this year and I hope the B&B owner agrees to your proposal and also well done on your completing your training, you seem very committed and I hope it all goes well for you.
Hope you all stay safe, animals included. Take care. xx
Love the sketch Wallowa. As for the work you are doing for your community, you are working hard and doing amazingly. Well done for selling your first piece for this year, way to go. 👍👍🌸
What a kind gesture, to offer to put up displaced friends. It must be worrying with all the wildfires, and documents are so important.
We don't get anything like the extremes of weather you get. Like the country, you get Big Weather. We don't have all the dangerous wildlife, either, no Bears, wolves or big cats. Only one venomous snake, and even that would sooner slither away than bite. Nothing really nasty in the spider department either, Britain is pretty bland.
