Hi all

My son in law's dad's getting married next year and I'm making the cake. Here's a few I've made in the past.

Hope you've all had a good day.

They are beautiful.

My Mum did wedding cakes. She did a 3 tier hexagonal one for us with trellis work , it was beautiful.

Love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπŸ€—πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

β€’ in reply to

Thank you Lynne.

I love trellis work, it's so effective and hexagonal shapes are difficult to decorate for sure. Your cake sounds lovely.

Alicia xxxxπŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸŒˆπŸ’œ

β€’ in reply to

Yes, it was. A lot of work went into it. That is why cakes are so expensive, the work that goes into them is phenomenal.

Please can we see we see the wedding cake when it's done? It's our Pearl in September which we were hoping we would be all together for but the way things are going in greater Manchester it's looking doubtful unfortunately.

Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπŸ€—πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

β€’ in reply to

Yes I agree, it probably took me about 3 months to prep the flowers for the last wedding cake I made. I only make for friends or family so done out of love.

Of course, it's not until next September but I'm not leaving HU anytime soon. I'm so sorry you are going to miss the celebrations for your Pearl. I hope you make up for it another time.

Take care xxxxπŸŒˆπŸ’œπŸ€—

β€’ in reply to

Hi

I know the wedding cake will be brilliant. My Mum did them for friends and family. I don't remember this as I was only 2. My Mum had been really busy doing trellis work on a particular cake, I was watching with my Grandpa (my Mum's Dad) when I decided to drag my hand across the soft icing!! My Grandpa said bless her , she's only 2!! I don't think my Mum was best pleased. She laughed about it years later 🀣 love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπŸ€—πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

β€’ in reply to

Bless your mum, she sounds so lovely. Hmm when you're only 2 you are going to do things like that. I bet your mum did have a good laugh about it years later. xxxxπŸ’œπŸŒˆπŸ€—

β€’ in reply to

Yes, my Mum was a lovely lady. She was my Mum and my best friend all rolled into one. She was The Wind Beneath My Wings.

She did have a good laugh when she told me about it when I was older 🀣

Love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπŸ€—πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

β€’ in reply to

That's so lovely what a beautiful way to describe your mum. My mum was also amazing, fiercely independent but so kind.

Alicia xxxxπŸŒˆπŸ’œ

β€’ in reply to

Yes, my Mum was very independent too but also very kind and would do anything for anyone as would my Dad.

One of the songs at my Mum's funeral was The Wind Beneath My Wings which she truly was.

I know our son drew that lovely picture of my Mum but I'm going to have a good look for all photos of which there are many and put one up if my Mum and Dad.

Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπŸ€—πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

They’re beautiful, you are very talented 😊 I t sounds funny, but I made my mother’s cake (second marriage obvs!) , I did lacework all round the sides and made figurines of her and my stepdad for the top dressed exactly as they were! Another 3 tier one I did was square with just a simple straight line edging and frosted grapes as decoration. It was very understated but effective! I haven’t made one in ages! Xx

β€’ in reply toleo60

Thank you.

I've never been good at figures, could never get my head round how to do them. Your mum's cake sounds beautiful. I love frosted grapes, they look so lovely.

How about you digging out the photos and posting, I'd love to see them.

Awesome. I can see why they asked.

I tried to cut our wedding cake but there was a hard piece of something on the second tier that wouldn’t cut. Maybe to provide structure?

Someone pushed me away and did it properly but I still haven’t figured out how. Just happy that it got done.

β€’ in reply todaveh121

Thank you Dave, appreciate your kind words.

You use pillars, very narrow ones inside cakes to hold the cake above, this is for American style cakes ie one on top of the other. You also use very thin cake boards as a firm base for the cake sat on top but the boards aren't visible.

That is exactly what happened. How was I to know? I should have studied up on it before hand.

β€’ in reply todaveh121

It's the kind of thing you know when you make the cakes as before I started with the cake decorating I didn't know either. It's an excellent way to keep the cake together.

It's a real art. Did you train for it?

β€’ in reply todiana1998

Thank you Diana. I attended a course many years ago on making fruit cakes which I could already do as I learnt at school, and how to marzipan and ice them. The sugar flower course was 5 weeks and I practiced by following some very good books on how to make many different flowers. I've made many mistakes along the way and by no means have perfected it.

I've always enjoyed baking.

I love the idea but wouldn't have the patience as know it's a very precise art for sure and a wonderful hobby. I'm about to make an olive and sundried tomato loaf as my first one got eaten by the family!! Won't cut everything up so small this time. All about experimentation πŸ‘†

β€’ in reply todiana1998

It does take patience and I remember the first time I made Orchids, I'd got to about the 6th one not working and threw it across the kitchen side, the rest of them all turned out absolutely fine, think I needed to lose my patience to enable me to correct what I was doing wrong;)

Ooh, I love the sound of your loaf, I love sundried tomatoes and isn't it lovely that your family ate the last one, that's an accolade as it just goes to show you did a very good job.

diana1998 profile image
diana1998β€’ in reply to

So laughed at you chucking it across the kitchen!!! 🀣 That's the artistic temperent!! Hubby and son who's staying here have already started on the loaf. I ate the crust with a slither of cheeseπŸ§€ to make sure it's OK. 😜

β€’ in reply todiana1998

Oh yes, I can definitely laugh at it now but not when I was making them LOLπŸ˜‚

Well you had to taste test to makes sure it was okπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‹πŸž

Lovely cakes, I know how much work goes into making flowers, I made my own wedding cake 7 years ago, I had red roses and a quaich on the top, it was made with fruit, chocolate and lemon Madeira. It took me months as well to make the flowers, I cheated and bought the silver quaich though. Your cakes are very professional.

β€’ in reply toLizard28

Thank you.

That's amazing making your own cake, brilliant. Yes the flowers do take a long time and I love roses.

I dont blame you for buying the silver quaich as it can very very stressful.

Thank you πŸ™πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‚πŸ₯žπŸŒˆ
