They are beautiful.
My Mum did wedding cakes. She did a 3 tier hexagonal one for us with trellis work , it was beautiful.
Love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπ€ππ
Thank you Lynne.
I love trellis work, it's so effective and hexagonal shapes are difficult to decorate for sure. Your cake sounds lovely.
Alicia xxxxππππ
Yes, it was. A lot of work went into it. That is why cakes are so expensive, the work that goes into them is phenomenal.
Please can we see we see the wedding cake when it's done? It's our Pearl in September which we were hoping we would be all together for but the way things are going in greater Manchester it's looking doubtful unfortunately.
Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπ€ππ
Yes I agree, it probably took me about 3 months to prep the flowers for the last wedding cake I made. I only make for friends or family so done out of love.
Of course, it's not until next September but I'm not leaving HU anytime soon. I'm so sorry you are going to miss the celebrations for your Pearl. I hope you make up for it another time.
Take care xxxxπππ€
Hi
I know the wedding cake will be brilliant. My Mum did them for friends and family. I don't remember this as I was only 2. My Mum had been really busy doing trellis work on a particular cake, I was watching with my Grandpa (my Mum's Dad) when I decided to drag my hand across the soft icing!! My Grandpa said bless her , she's only 2!! I don't think my Mum was best pleased. She laughed about it years later π€£ love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπ€ππ
Bless your mum, she sounds so lovely. Hmm when you're only 2 you are going to do things like that. I bet your mum did have a good laugh about it years later. xxxxπππ€
Yes, my Mum was a lovely lady. She was my Mum and my best friend all rolled into one. She was The Wind Beneath My Wings.
She did have a good laugh when she told me about it when I was older π€£
Love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπ€ππ
That's so lovely what a beautiful way to describe your mum. My mum was also amazing, fiercely independent but so kind.
Alicia xxxxππ
Yes, my Mum was very independent too but also very kind and would do anything for anyone as would my Dad.
One of the songs at my Mum's funeral was The Wind Beneath My Wings which she truly was.
I know our son drew that lovely picture of my Mum but I'm going to have a good look for all photos of which there are many and put one up if my Mum and Dad.
Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx β€οΈπ€ππ
Theyβre beautiful, you are very talented π I t sounds funny, but I made my motherβs cake (second marriage obvs!) , I did lacework all round the sides and made figurines of her and my stepdad for the top dressed exactly as they were! Another 3 tier one I did was square with just a simple straight line edging and frosted grapes as decoration. It was very understated but effective! I havenβt made one in ages! Xx
Thank you.
I've never been good at figures, could never get my head round how to do them. Your mum's cake sounds beautiful. I love frosted grapes, they look so lovely.
How about you digging out the photos and posting, I'd love to see them.
Alicia πππ xx
Absolutely beautiful, pity they had to be eaten
Thank you Jennymary. πππ xx
Wonderful Alicia! You're a very talented cake decorator. Love them! ππ
Thank you Sue, I've a year to practice now fortunately.πππ
Thank you. It's been 5 years since I made a wedding cake with sugar flowers so I'd better get practising again.ππ
We certainly have some fantastically clever people on this forum! Comedians, artists, cake makers etc
Bless you, lovely of you to say. I agree, there are some amazing artists and some that haven't been doing it long either.πππ
Youβre cakes are wonderful x
Thank you, I really appreciate that xx
Wow Alicia, so many gorgeously decorated cakes - you are an Artisan, for sure! Your son-in-law's Dad is lucky to have you making his Wedding cake - I bet it will be amazing.
Zest xx
Thank you Zest, much appreciated. There's a little bit of planning to do but it will be all good.

Her that's a fantastic anniversary to look forward to, were 42 years this year.
I've got some practicing to do now. Could do with special courier for a cake for your Golden.πππ
They are absolutely beautiful cf. You are a woman of many talents and a fit one at that! π xx
Thank you, it started with making birthday cakes for my girls who are in their late 30's now.
Alicia xxπππ
My goodbyes so beautiful! You are an artist!
Thank you, so lovely of you to sayπππ
Thank you Jerry, so lovely of you to say.
They are such a lovely couple and I'm more than happy to make the cake.
Aliciaππππ
They are all so beautiful and done to perfection. You are very skilled. They will be spoiled for choice, thatβs for sure. π΅ππ°
Thank you Bobby, really appreciate your kind words.ππππ₯π°π
Awesome. I can see why they asked.
I tried to cut our wedding cake but there was a hard piece of something on the second tier that wouldnβt cut. Maybe to provide structure?
Someone pushed me away and did it properly but I still havenβt figured out how. Just happy that it got done.
Thank you Dave, appreciate your kind words.
You use pillars, very narrow ones inside cakes to hold the cake above, this is for American style cakes ie one on top of the other. You also use very thin cake boards as a firm base for the cake sat on top but the boards aren't visible.
Aliciaπ°π₯ππππ
That is exactly what happened. How was I to know? I should have studied up on it before hand.
It's the kind of thing you know when you make the cakes as before I started with the cake decorating I didn't know either. It's an excellent way to keep the cake together.
Absolutely beautiful cakes! You are very talented!
Thank youπππ°π₯π
Absolutely amazing, very talented
It's a real art. Did you train for it?
Thank you Diana. I attended a course many years ago on making fruit cakes which I could already do as I learnt at school, and how to marzipan and ice them. The sugar flower course was 5 weeks and I practiced by following some very good books on how to make many different flowers. I've made many mistakes along the way and by no means have perfected it.
I've always enjoyed baking.

I love the idea but wouldn't have the patience as know it's a very precise art for sure and a wonderful hobby. I'm about to make an olive and sundried tomato loaf as my first one got eaten by the family!! Won't cut everything up so small this time. All about experimentation π
It does take patience and I remember the first time I made Orchids, I'd got to about the 6th one not working and threw it across the kitchen side, the rest of them all turned out absolutely fine, think I needed to lose my patience to enable me to correct what I was doing wrong
Ooh, I love the sound of your loaf, I love sundried tomatoes and isn't it lovely that your family ate the last one, that's an accolade as it just goes to show you did a very good job.
So laughed at you chucking it across the kitchen!!! π€£ That's the artistic temperent!! Hubby and son who's staying here have already started on the loaf. I ate the crust with a slither of cheeseπ§ to make sure it's OK. π
Lovely cakes, I know how much work goes into making flowers, I made my own wedding cake 7 years ago, I had red roses and a quaich on the top, it was made with fruit, chocolate and lemon Madeira. It took me months as well to make the flowers, I cheated and bought the silver quaich though. Your cakes are very professional.
Thank you.
That's amazing making your own cake, brilliant. Yes the flowers do take a long time and I love roses.
I dont blame you for buying the silver quaich as it can very very stressful.
Thank you ππππ₯π
Clever lady, these are all delightful.
What a clever lady .Really enjoyed your pictures xxx
They are excellent I was a chef for30 years very nice
Thank you Jeff and my goodness, you had a hard job. I watch Masterchef and can see the patience it takes to be a chef.
Wow ..these are really professional . A decent cake is always a great photo too .
Your cakes are really beautiful, what a centrepiece for a wedding table and all the more special when they are made with love x
Thank you and that's so lovely of you to say, much appreciated.
Alicia x
Wonderful! You are so talented. I can't ice cakes- my Christmas cakes always end up as a rough snow scene with plastic tree and snowman lol
Thank you but it's not what it looks like, it's what it tastes like.
I guess so. Especially with all the brandy I put in it!!!
Ah so you are a brandy person, I'm a dark rum person when it comes to fruit cakes. I soak the cake fruit in a whole 70cl bottle of dark rum and leave for around 2 to 3 days but I do remember that one of my fruit cakes leaked, fortunately it was my own cake LOL
Wow they look brilliant, you are so talented
Thank you, lovely of you to say
Absolutely wonderful craftsmanship, Alicia. You are very talented in more than one way. I wish you all a great time on the happy occasion.
Thank you and I appreciate what you've said. I'm really looking forward to the big day and glad for my son-in-law's dad and fiancee that it's next year.

That's so lovely of you to say, thank you. I've never entered a competition but am more than happy to make them for family and friends xx
What beautifully elegant cakes. I do envy you. I used to make and decorate cakes like you do but have given up now as my hands are too bad. My daughter now does all the cakes that i miss so much. Do you let people see thr cake ad it evolves or leave it for the big reveal? π₯
Thank you and I'm so sorry you can no longer enjoy cake making and decorating. I'm so glad your daughter has I inherited your skill. No they don't see it before xx
