Trying to cope as my Mother had an accidental fall

Roukaya profile image
19 Replies

I have often commented on my anxieties and struggles but today as I was studying and preparing job applications I heard that a construction vehicle drove on the pavement and knocked mum over and her foot was bruised by a large stone She was taken to the local day care centre and her foot bandaged and given a tetanus vaccination

I am concerned but I realised it could have been a lot worse

She is not totally alone as she has her cousin to keep a check in her

As an only child , this makes my anxiety worse

So sorry to read of your mum's accident, the best thing you can do, I know it'll be hard for you, is to keep studying, let family and /or friends look after your mum, look after yourself

Good Afternoon

I hope you are well

I have an elderly and demanding little Mother who was knocked over and a huge stone hit her foot

She seems to be ok but because I am used to being a carer for my elderly Father I start to worry

She does not have many friends or relatives just one or two

But there is her cousin who lives not to far who has checked to see how she is

Very hard as I live alone in U.K. and my elderly Mother on her own

Hi Roukaya.

There is nothing physically you can do for your Mum, she has family around to help her. What you can do is send her a Get well Soon card so she knows you are thinking of her, and that you do care, but don't interrupt your studies. You need this qualification.

Cheers, Midori

Good Afternoon

I hope you are well

My Mother has few friends and a cousin who will check on her

It is a concern because I am away but her wound has been bandaged with a Tetanus vaccination

I hope you are well

Good Afternoon

I hope you are well

I am far away so I cannot see the extent of the problem

But it is true that the construction vehicle knocked her over and her foot hit a large stone causing her toe to bleed

This is what used to happen to my Father he never fell but do to his dementia and mental decline he was always having accidents and I was always on call

I expect now as Mum is 72 she did have a very narrow escape and given a Tentsnus injection for the wound

Hi Roukaya! That must have been a shock for you, but thank goodness it wasn't worse and that she has her cousin to look out for her.

I am really pleased to hear you are doing your studies and job applicatons, that sounds very positive, well done :) Don't let your mother's mishap break your stride. As others have said, there is nothing physically you can do from here apart from letting her know you are thinking of her, ultimately, your studies will benefit her also.

Try not to worry, not easy, I know.

Take care xx

Good Afternoon

I hope you are well

Thanks for answering

I have started studying since the beginning of June and I did a Mock paper and now typing revision notes

This is why I have failed over three years

As soon as there is a problem I book a flight and go over

Revision suffers and I end up failing by a few marks

She does have a cousin who she is not very close too but she will keep an eye on mum as they are both isolated with few family near them

I think as I suffer from anxiety and lack of self confidence this impacts on my ability to concentrate on the task at hand

By the way concerning the new tenant I did replace the bedroom carpet and small hall way carpet

The tenant in the end kept my bedroom furniture except for the mattress

I cannot understand how she asked for the removal of the bedroom furniture and now has decided to keep with mine

I hope you are keeping well

Hi Roukaya. So , you know that this time you must stay here and continue your studies :) It must be very frustrating to fail by just a few marks, so keep at it and best luck to you!

Good to hear things have settled down with your tenant, it helps to have a regular income, as long as there is not too much stress involved!

Take good care xx

Thank you

I hope you are well

She is already a little demanding little lady and she knows this will cause me much anxiety for the next few days

But I have to realise it could have been so much worse

I hope you are well

Sorry to hear of your mum’s accident. Hope she improves quickly and it’s a blessing that the damage wasn’t worse. 🙏

Good Afternoon

I expect she is shocked , I am shocked

I realise it could have been a lot more serious

I hope with the Tetanus job she will be able to recover

I expect because I am far and she is on her own , this adds to my anxiety

I hope you are well

I can understand your worries darling! But try and stay calm okay! Just call your Mum and reassure her! That is what she needs! Try not to focus too much on how it has affected your anxiety! Your Mum could have been killed, but thank God she got away with a bruised foot! Please try and stay calm for her sake! 🙏❤️

Hi Roukaya, I am so sorry to hear of your mum's accident. It must have been a bit of a shock for both of you. Your mum sounds as though her needs have been catered for and met very well and treatment that she needed, she received, promptly. This should reassure you, that, your mum, in an bit of an emergency, is able to get through it, even though, you are miles away. It is important to stay with your mind on your studies, as you are so very close to gaining what you want. When you have done this, you will get chance too see your mum at some point, when you can arrange a visit. You, not focusing on your studies now, is not going to change your mum's situation, it will only change yours, so keep the revisions up. 😊🌸

Good evening

I hope you are well

Thank you for your kind advice

I think you have shown me understanding of the situation

I have been studying since the beginning of June , I did a Mock Paper and I typing the revision notes as well as listening to a Webinar a day

It is consistently and continuity that I need

I agree despite being in her own as her foot bled she was told to go to the day care centre and was treated

I realise that the help came to her when she needed it the most

I expect due to my own anxiety I am constantly thinking of worst case scenario which can be very detrimental to me

I hope you are well and thank you for telling me her medical needs were met in time

Sending your family prayers darling it must be so hard for you.
