It’s national dog rescue day today 🥰 and as I’m a dog walker (until the lockdown started) and someone who is mad about dogs I thought I’d post this for any other dog lovers out there.
Here are a few rescue dogs that I know. 3 of them I have walked but the spaniel on the chair is living out her life at our local retreat rescue centre and it’s unlikely she can ever be rehomed.
The greyhound has been rescued from the race tracks as at only 3 years she was discarded and put into retirement.
The Jack Russell was rescued from the RSPCA
The pointer X was rescued off the streets of Ireland by the Dogs trust.
So all of these puppies have had a great outcome after a rocky start so that’s something to warm our hearts 💚

It just breaks your heart how some of these beautiful animals are treated. They are so loving and loyal to be discarded this way some people should be banned from ever getting a pet for life. I hope they find homes with loving people.🐕🐕🐕
All the above have loving homes so no worries there. I think some people see them as a fad rather than one of the family. I always think there are more people in the world looking after their pets than not and I just hold on to that thought 💚
Yes I know, Pip was rescued as a pup. My daughter has a rescued Lurched and my mum has a small rescued Chihuahua. I always put food and biscuits in the box at Tesco for the dogs homes and also food for the food banks and for the cats also. I try to get something for all three when I do my main shop. I think anything helps. 👍😊😊
Oh that's not good, sometimes when people are spoiled their behavior is a lot to be desired but as they get older, sometimes they realise how selfish they have been.😊😊
There was an incident at Nana's where her older sister had asked my aunt to look after her and all it was over was that she had her period and then a fuss had erupted all because of that!
My colleague at a previous job had said how asking to be looked after just because of that was pathetic!
She had called my aunt a stupid old cow in a shopping centre all because she wouldn't buy her some expensive trainers and then had graduated to calling my aunt an f ing bitch when she was in her 20s!
Oh that is dreadful, as they say, you cannot pick your families. It is such selfish behavior and some people are prone to a bad temper. Maybe she should try some relaxation therapy to chill herself out a bit and calm down. xx
Unfortunately some families do not run smoothly and tempers flare. You Aunt must have been very upset. Maybe she will realize how precious her mum is one day. xx
What lovely photos Ali. Isn't is awful the way that animals are treated at times. We've always had cats as hubby is allergic to dogs, funnily enough not cats, but every cat we've had has been a rescued one. I don't agree with breeders at all, why do we need pedigrees as there are so many unwanted animals that need homes.
Exactly. Not sure how some people part with their pets. For some people it’s probably the last resort and very upsetting but some are just plain irresistible.
Same here apart from my daughter, she took a rescue dog in but her little one who was just coming up to 3 at the time was scared of him, he also nipped her. Not the dogs fault at all, just not ideal for children but the place where she got the dog didn't tell her.
There are far too many irresponsible people out there.

Just cannot understand anyone who can mistreat any animal. My family have had border collies since I got married in 1971. Unfortunately since losing my last one, Fergus, and my subsequent diagnosis I just couldn’t give them the time and exercise as I live alone. However I do have a fabulous grand dog!! Missing her so much as she is in London but getting daily photos and videos from my daughter! Her name is Bess and she is so clever and funny too.
I have not given up hope that once my treatment finishes etc I could have a smaller rescue do 🤞🤞🤞❤️🌈
Fingers crossed I hope that works out for you. It’s lovely to keep in touch via video but it’s not the same is it. I’m particularly missing Lola the cocker spaniel I walk. They have sent me videos (one of her shopping for treats in the pet shop which was funny) but I need a hug from her 🥰
Fergus is a great name. My dad has a border collie called Bess. Bossy Bess I call her as she has got my dad into a proper routine 😂
I love that! 😁 They have a way of doing that! We had a rescue BC X (pretty sure it was with spaniel and maybe Irish Setter) - he was absolutely gorgeous and not very old when we took him. When I used to take him over the moors, he used to run circles round me like he was rounding up sheep so I assume he came from a farm - he was found wandering the streets one morning after horrdenous storms the night before. When we got our ESS pup, he used to chase her as if he was trying to corral her too.

That's great you've had success with rescuing and your dogs have been wonderful. I think they just need a chance. I must be a bit soft as I cant watch Paul Grady for the love of dogs. 😪
No she has spaniel rage unfortunately. Very sad. Balled my eyes out when I heard the story. I wanted to have her but best she stays where she is. I love her and bought some chews to send to the retreat and put her name on them. 😪
Here is a link to it. The dog was in a loving family with young children. Bit the child and they couldnt get her off. The dog otherwise isnt aggressive but then has a sort of fit and doesnt realise shes done it. She has attacked other dogs as well. Heartbreaking as when she comes to again she is back to her loving self.
That's a dreadful condition Ade isn't it, I understand now what you mean. I had honestly never heard of it. It's so heartbreaking for owners of the dogs who suffer with it. Thanks for the link. x
Really sad. She seems perfect and so gentle. The owners arranged with the vet to have her put down but they couldnt do it and drove to the animal rescue place instead. Fingers crossed she keeps out of mischief.
I didn't know that. All my dogs have been rescues. They give so much more than we give them. I've just been sent a video of another Hound In Need too......Will have to have a chat with Mr B and see if he's willing to share his mum...
Oh how lovely. I'm waiting for one to come to me and if it does it's meant to be. Bot sure Willow would like it. Some people say she would get used to get other people say she wouldnt. Who knows. Shes 14.
Faithful Hound is 7 1/2. Like Willow opinions have varied as to whether he would feel pushed out or not. If he did he would stay quiet and not make it obvious and it would break my heart to have him feel he isn't enough. I'm probably overthinking. Also I had decided no more just in case with my health and being on my own but if I stay fine for ten years I will regret not doing it while I could!!
Great pictures of the dogs. Our rescue dog is snoring away by my feet. She has a tough time before we had her 4 homes in 6 weeks but we have had her two years and she has lightened up our lives. We had our last rescue dog 16 years. It can sometimes be hard work at first but they reward all the effort you put in.x
