Dog walkers in narrow lane

I went for a short walk yesterday. Kept safe distance from all. Then thought I’ll walk down the lane it’s just 2m wide. There is a turn near end of lane. I had checked the lane was empty beforehand. Unfortunately there I was met by a lady with two dogs, double lead taking up whole lane. One dog nearly tangled round my legs. lady spoke to dog, distance between us reduced to barely 1m, no apology to me. 😬 Could she not have taken the long route in the wider street, when she was clearly taking up over 2m with her dogs? Just saying.

Hi Granola4,

It's so frustrating isn't it, taking all sensible precautions yourself and then finding people who aren't as careful as you, and worse, being be ill-mannered too? I guess the two things really are connected!

I don't think there is anything wrong at all in calling out some kind of solution, like "I'm going to back up over to the tree back there. Would you please wait here until until we can get enough space between us."

I can't go out at all, but my husband is always reporting back to me that he has to ask people to keep a safe distance from him. It's too important a thing to remain silent and that sounds fine to me, so long as you make the request politely He says that most people comply, some with an apology, but often grudgingly and without apology. That is secondary. The important thing is to try to bring about a safe distance between you. Take care and I hope you are having a good day today.

That would have rattled me, pig ignorance always does.

Think the woman was a bit dippy, I was too busy thinking - how quickly can I get into house, wash myself and clothes. I’d not been out for a walk in 3 weeks. Annoyed at myself as well for going into lane in first place. My house is adjacent to it.

Anyway, I’ve decided to ‘take a turn round the garden’- jane Austin style- 👍

Maybe she couldn't physically walk the long way round . I have dodged bikes this morning and I feel there are plenty of new bikers that never went out for even 15 mins before this . We crossed via M/S and Tesco as we walked home . The car park just looks like a normal day .Hard to dodge people now , maybe if not in this lane , somewhere else ? Minority will ruin this for people who really really need that fresh air as Gov are constantly reviewing as they must .

I have found that some people are completely oblivious of the Coronavirus. I had one in a grocery store that was getting right up next to me and touching all the groceries and just oblivious that she was just up against everybody?? No mask, no gloves.

Hi left behind,

Totally agree with you, we’re all trying to behave responsibly, and these folks just add to our stress and anxiety levels. You go home and start looking out for symptoms. I think Jesus has a saying it, ‘forgive them, father, they know not what they do’.

Well I’m not Jesus, and under the present circumstances, find forgiving them difficult.

But, it is Easter, and I have an egg to finish decorating, family having a Zoom meeting later to judge our eggstravaganza.

Have a happy Easter, and let’s hope our old lives will be renewed soon. Stay safe, keep strong 😘🤗
