Peonies

Here’s a cheery photo of my lovely Peonies.

The wind had blown some of them down so I thought I might as well bring them in the house where I can still enjoy them.

(You see the cute little catnip mice? I bought them for my cat Willow last Christmas and reasons only known to her, she is petrified of them 😂).

Ali 😃

Thanks for sharing such a nice, cosy picture.Yes the wind is doing a bit of damage in the garden today. A number of my plant pots have blown over and its very cold so I won't be out there today. That's an interesting ornament alongside your peonies.

Yes it’s very windy. Probably best to wait until everything settles down. That ornament is an angel. I love it. I’ve had it years. I bought it with £20 I found on the floor after I’d decided I couldn’t afford it so I think it’s extra special.

What a lovely story. Almost as if it was meant for you. A Guardian Angel maybe!

They are beautiful aren’t they. I like the very pale pink ones best.

Beautiful flowers! I would love to have some at my place too, but probably will have to buy a bouquet because I don't have a garden. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely, mine are still in bud. They're scented too and one of my favourite flowers.

Agoodenough profile image
Agoodenough in reply toGhounds

Ah well that's good they are still in bud as this wind is blowing the petal off mine. Fab flowers aren't they x

They are. Mine are by the front door and sheltered by the hedge so they stand pretty well unless we get heavy rain. Some more in a gloomy corner too. I can't take credit as they were planted by the lady who lived here before. I planted some more when I came but they're not flowering yet.x

Lol well I can’t take credit either as mine were here when I moved here and the previous lady said they had self seeded. There were two lots when I moved in and now there are four 🌞💕

Dear Agoodenough,

About Twenty years back 🙈, I used to regularly walk past a Beautiful Garden, as I approached the Sea Front. One day beautiful flowers were in full bloom and as I didn't know what they were, I decided to Politely knock. I received no answer, nor did I on a few more occasions.

It 'turned out' that the Owner was Stone Deaf...… Id did finally, get to, 'Talk' to him.

Oh dear. Glad you managed to contact them in the end. Did you ever find out what the flowers were?

Yes they were Peonies, I though I'd made that clear.... Sorry!

Thank you. So do I. The cat stops in her tracks if she spots them. I think they're cute which is why i never threw them away. I just keep them out of her way 🙄

Haha, I’ve bought lots of toys for Mia and she’s just not interested so they go to my daughters young cat, he loves them. Mia likes her squirrel with cat nap and a tied up crisp packet 🤷🏼‍♀️

Tied up crisp packet lol I'll have to try that. Thing is if you think about it the more expensive the toy or bed the less they seem to like it haha maybe theres a lesson there 😃

in reply toAgoodenough

Absolutely, we spent a fortune on beds and toys my daughters cat loves me! 🙄

Lovely colour, do they flower during winter?

Agoodenough profile image
Agoodenough in reply toDallo100

No they flower april, May time in UK. Sadly the flowers only last 7 to 10 days.

Thank you 😀

Peonies are such pretty flowers, they are quite big as well, I love them.

Your cat has made me smile, scared of the toy mouse, that's funny.😅

They are gorgeious Agoodenough! And what a lovely composition with the addition of those mice and the ornament. Really lovely!😊

I love Peonies, beautiful flower from China. x

Hadnt realised they are from China. They are beautiful aren't they.

Peonies were bought to Japan from China and their cultivation become widespread during the Edo period (1603 to 1868). A symbol of fertility and nobility, ordinarily, peonies flower in April and May. 4 Jan 2020

I had two large plants my Mum gave me when we moved into our house in 1978. Every year they flowered beautifully with more and more blooms each year and every year, just a day or so after the flowers opened, along would come the flipping rain and winds and blow all the beautiful petals to the ground. I tried moving them one year not realising that they disliked disturbance and lost them both. I was extremely upset as my Mum gave them to me so they were special.

Oh no. That’s sad. I can imagine you would be upset x

I thank you for sharing the history of the Peonies!!

There is a garden of Peonies near me at a park near the University of Michigan! They are a very "happy flower"!!

Agoodenough profile image
Agoodenough in reply tocgnj

Sounds lovely. They are beautiful but they are very fragile so they don’t like being inside and are exposed to the elements outside. Lovely while they last though. 🙂
