I was sitting thinking about my Irish family this morning. I've only recently connected with them and never physically met them yet! It's a long story and I only found them about three years ago after doing some genealogy research online. Research played a big part but also a big stroke of luck whilst I was visiting my dad's former home in County Kerry. The COVID19 crisis has thwarted this year's plans to meet up with them, so we're still having to rely on email, but I'm still hopeful that one of these days......
Anyway it reminded me of that most famous of Irish sayings, its origins lost in the mists of time. I expect most of you know it already. But it's very beautiful so here's a reprise.
'May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rain fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hands.'
I hope you all have a wonderful day today and please stay safe and well.

How lovely. I love the poem. I’ve been to ireland a few times as my mother is from the north and my father the south. Kerry is a beautiful county so I hope you do get there another time.
Hi Agoodenough, I do know Kerry, as my grandparents are from there. Cahirciveen to be precise. Last visit my husband and I attempted The Ring of Kerry but miscalculated the weather and did it in heavy mist and rain, so we are planning a return as soon as we can to try again, and hoping to get over to Valencia island which is where my great grandparents were born. It's the seat of my family clan, the McCrohans. I also know the north, having lived in Lisburn for a couple of years. I feel a deep connection with Ireland, even though I was brought up in England. Great to meet someone else with Irish heritage. Éirinn go Brách 🌈
That's just wonderful to find lost relative's I hope you get the chance to meet when this is over. 😊😊
Hi bobbybobb, Yes, it's been an amazing thing. Thank you and I'm sure we will manage to meet when the time's right. Somehow all of this has made me even more determined! 😊
That's lovely LadyZen. The Irish are very creative people and there's so much poetry, prose and music that's created there.
That's so beautiful.
How amazing you found your relatives, this makes me think about my hubby who has studied Genealogy has gone back a very long way into his and my family and our Son-in-law's family as well. He's also researched for a couple of friends of mine, it's his hobby.
It's very interesting.
I hope you get to meet your relatives very soon.

Yes, genealogy is fascinating, though you have to be prepared for some shocks, surprises and dead ends. I did learn a lot through research but my big break was really a very random thing. The couple whose cottage we had rented on a trip to Ireland knew someone with my grandmother's surname living in Co Kildare and they said they knew she'd help me if I got in touch with her. So I did, and she turned out to be my cousin, and I have a large family group over there waiting to meet me! Sometimes miracles do happen! 😊

Oh it really is and yes there are certainly a few things that appear out of the woodwork.
That really was by chance, wasn't it, if you hadn't rented that cottage you wouldn't have known😮
I'm really pleased for you and it'll be worth the wait to go and see them.🌈😊
