My Labrador of 14 years passed today. My heart is broken but I know I will never forget her.she was the most loyal and beautiful dog. They give unconditional love and steal your heart from the moment you get them. I have the memories and photos of her always.

The few animals I have lost, left me with more sorrow than some people I have known. I think it is that they seem to believe we are perfect, except when we are late with food. I am sorry for your loss, but as you say, you have all the memories.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your faithful companion of 14 years. It brings tears to my eyes, because I too have experienced the pain that follows the loss of a beloved dog. Dog gone it they depart before we had hoped. Please share more memories & photos with us whenever you feel up to it. I’d love to hear more about dear Harley. Take care Rowing, my heart goes out to you.

I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your best friend and it has brought tears to my eyes. I have dogs and the pain you must feel at the moment must be very raw. We know when we get a pet it is more likely we are going to out live them, this is the one and only disadvantage of owning a pet because we would wish them by our side for ever. The photograph is so beautiful and you can see the love and loyalty she has in her eyes. When the rawness passes, you will have great memories and many photographs to gaze upon of the great years you had with her.🌻

A colleague at my previous job had a Siberian husky called cain and when he died she had been absolutely devastated and had been signed off work for 2 weeks with stress.

Nowadays she has an extremely spoilt terrier called Archie who rules the roost same as baby does!

They all rule the roost don’t they 😊😊

We have a very spoilt elderly ginger tabby called baby who rules our roost!

I am so sorry, I feel your pain, animals play such a big part in our lives and are important family members. I’m sure she had a wonderful life with you and that’s such a good thing. 🤗

So sorry for you passing of yr best friend

I'm sorry to hear that and it's always hard losing a pet no matter what creature it is.

Oh bless you Rowing58, You have me crying here. It's a terrible thing to lose such a long term and much loved companion. It's as bad as losing a human being and I feel so bad for you.

If you can, through your grief, try to remember what a lovely life you gave this lovely and faithful friend, right up to the end. But this is a bereavement like any other and you will need time to grieve before you can heal.

I'm sure that, in time, all of your memories and photographs will help.

Take care and thinking of you today.🙏

Thank you all for your comments. She was a great dog, always on my lap when I sat down, and always very demanding wanting to be stroked and scratched.

Dogs have a way of getting right into your heart and we all miss her. 14 years is a good old age for a lab.

My other labrador, Indy ( she’s 8) doesn’t know where to go In the house so she is getting extra loving and snooks too.

I'm so pleased you have her to console you, and that you can console her too! 🙏

So sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. No matter how many you have it never gets easier. They are all closer to us than most people and understand you in a special way don’t they?

I'm really sorry to hear your news. I've always loved dogs for their devotion and companionship. They always your friend and stay in your heart for ever.

When my red tabby Main Coon (my avatar) succumbed to cancer, I missed him more than I had ever missed anyone with two legs.

Aww Rowing58 I am so sorry to hear this. You're absolutely right, they do give unconditional love and steal your heart from the moment you get them. They are such a sincere animal, loyal and loving (not always obedient though 😀). I know exactly what you are going through - I still mourn my last one from 2013, it's easier but you never get over it. You must let yourself grieve without holding back. Thinking of you and sending you a big hug. xx

Look at that beautiful dog with loving eyes.

I am happy you knew her and sad for your loss.

Worst part about having a short lived friend.

Remember her fondly.

So very sorry for your loss. Many of us know and understand this pain well, here's a little poem that says it all:

I always knew the day would come when we have to part,

But know you'll be remembered,

YOU LEFT PAWPRINTS on my HEART.
