Not Good Enough Tesco !!

Can't believe Tesco stores are not giving prioty to the elderly, disabled and vulnerable people who are trying to book an online home delivery grocery slot. There is no delivery slots for me online until after the 20th April !!! I'm 65, live alone and have a disability. Vulnerable people are having to go into the store daily at the risk on catching Coronavirus . All these slots that are booked by fit and able younger people should be taken by the more needy. Its disgraceful .NOT GOOD ENOUGH TESCO !!

We have just had a phone call from the nurse at our doctors surgery asking if we were okay and if we could get supplies. She said if we struggled we could have a phone number to ring for help. Try ringing your surgery this must be something that they are doing going through their patient list. Otherwise look on the Government website and register as vulnerable. Failing that Iceland are delivering to the old and vulnerable.

Thank you Happyme. I've tried the governent site, but you can only register for help if you live in England. I cant see my local surgery helping as they are short staffed and aren't really that interested.!! Unfortunately Iceland dont deliver to where I live in Scotland. Thanks anyway.

Thank you very much. I'll just continue to go in store which is very difficult for me especially now they have it all cordoned off. At least they have priority shopping times for the elderly and vulnerable. Money Wed and Fri between 9 and 10am

I always look up to Scotland as a place of great civilisation, I know for sure they do better for their own people than England, I went to my supermarket with a 2 miles distance, I found things really crazy, I know why because The 2 meter distancing rule may work in places where there is space but not once you step inside the supermarket may be around the checkout areas only 😷😷🤐🤐🌾🌾🐣🐣

Yes Scotland is a great place to live. I love my country, but supermarkets are the same regarding 'no online delivery slots for the most vulnerable' if you live in England or Scotland. It's the supermarkets themselves who need to get their heads together on this issue. I don't know why registering for the goverment help is just in england. Maybe it's because I clicked on the link on here that another person had left. Maybe I need to use a different goverment link. My local Tesco is cordoned off and yes you're right it does work best in places like where I live where it's not so busy which is how I manage I live close to tesco.

in reply toCatoutdoors

Our local supermarkets are cordoned off as well and I won't be visiting them unless I am really desperate and have no other choice after having to queue to get into Morrison's last week!

Today, perhaps the situation remains the same unfortunately in the whole world even in those so called disciplined countries.....full of Chao's, no discipline, no consideration for the elderly, disabled and the sick....

We will have to wait until the Covid19 situation improves....

In the mean time , let us try to find out alternative ways for our living....

I totally agree and then you get a message from the CEO to pat himself and the stores on the chest. I am disabled and am not allowed to drive at present so great! The family live in the Midlands. When trying to book items they are not available and delivery only showing (full) for 3 weeks and than nothing. I have given up now. In my area they started a local delivery service for over 60 and it is BRILLIANT. We'll done Harwich Help.

That sounds great Noutshi. Wish they would do something like that where I live in Lockerbie Scotland

They seem to be only prioritising the 'extremely vulnerable' which you can register on the gov.uk website. These are people with cancer, copd, organ transplants etc so miss out lots of other people who are also very vulnerable. I tried to register my partner on the list and he has end stage liver disease. I was told he didnt qualify. I think it is the people on this list are the ones that the supermarkets are prioritising. Makes it really difficult for those others who need home deliveries.

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply toCorrine1

I noticed this myself when I tried to Register Corrine. Even if I lived in England it appears I wouldn't qualify although I'm 65, disabled and live alone . I'm sorry about your partner having liver disease and think it's awful that he doesn't qualify.

I think you are right about the supermarkets using this list which is leaving a lot of vulnerable people not getting the help they should. Ridiculous!!!

It's a very stressful time for us all. I feel terrified that if I go to the shops I'm going to pick something up and pass it on to partner. Are you managing to get food? I know some places are organising volunteers to deliver but it's awful having to ask and I feel it should be a lot easier to get help. The people who need it arent getting it.

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply toCorrine1

Hi Corrine yes must be awful for you. I'd be terrified I passed it on to him too. Fortunately I live almost next door to tesco so I just go in and get a few things daily. I shouldn't really be going in the store as you run the risk of getting Coronavirus but I dont have any option as I live alone and my nearest family are 100 miles away. I struggle with heavy items so really need online shopping. Someone said Asda give priority to vulnerable customers but I cant register with them to have a look so for now I'm going to have to go into Tesco most days. Take care. Thanks for your concern. It's much appreciated

Hello I just read that marks and Spencer are doing an online food box.May be worth a look.

Noutshi profile image

Thanks will have a look but they are 19 miles away. Wonder if they deliver that far.

jane1964 profile image
jane1964 in reply toNoutshi

I think it's Nationwide by courrier like the Morrison's scheme, I live in Aberystwyth and normally can't get deliveries from Morrison's but I I can get their food box well I could if I could get one, it's really difficult I know.!

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply tojane1964

What is a food box Jane ? Are only some people eligible and how do you go about getting one ?

jane1964 profile image
jane1964 in reply toCatoutdoors

Morrison's and Marks and Spencer are both doing these you can't choose what's in them although Morrison's have an option for meat or vegetarian box it's a set price £30 plus £5 delivery anyone can buy them if they can get them while there's available each day. They are delivered by a courier not the normal vans the idea is to give more availability the marks and Spencer one has no fridge items the Morrison's one does with (cold packs).I found the Morrison's one by searching Morrison's food box, the m and s one can also be searched as m and s food box. They are both sold out today hopefully there will be more tomorrow. They are supposed to have food for two people for a week.I haven't managed to get one yet but it's somewhere else to try. I think because it's a courier they will deliver anywhere.

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply tojane1964

Thanks Jane I'll look into this as it's an option for me. As you say if its courier they should deliver anywhere . I'll let you know if I manage to get one. Mostly my problem is the heavy things like milk pots etc I shop daily in Tesco but struggle with my disability and of course run the risk of infection . Take care and thanks.

Catoutdoors in reply toNoutshi

My M & S is 20 miles away so not sure if they'll deliver that far either ?

Hi all I share your frustration. I spent yesterday afternoon trying to register for home delivery. Tesco were the only store I could register with and as you all say no slots for 3 weeks. I have been able to get a delivery of fruit and veg next week from a local independent shop. I do have a neighbour that helps but will they do so for the next 11 weeks? and what if they get sick? I have had the letter and have registered but I am not holding my breath as to what happens next from that! It does not help when I see my able bodied neighbours getting home delivery when they are quite able to go to the shops. Rant over!

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply toNimrod2

It's a disgrace that younger folk are getting home deliveries and the much more vulnerable are left out in the cold. Ridiculous!!!

I agree totally

I agree . I’ve tried all the supermarkets and can’t get a delivery. Even Boots wouldn’t deliver my medication. So my vulnerable husband has been going out

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors

I agree totally with what you say John. It must be very trying for the stores to go up to such large numbers of people requiring deliveries, but that shouldn't stop them giving priority to the vulnerable sector. Every day I go to tesco and get what I can. As I can't walk very well I can't carry much and am also risking infection. The goverment want us to stay inside and yet people who are not fit enough and are living alone with no family near to help are being forced out shopping every day. Somethings not right. Roll on better days. Take care.

Waitrose are as bad - their website states that they are working towards prioritising elderly and vulnerable customers, and that they will be contacting them. But how will they be identified, and when? I phoned their customer services, and was told to register with www, gov.uk as W would find out from them. I filled in the online form, to the point where it became apparent that I was not eligible for government food parcels!

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply to15sunbe

15sunbe this government list is only for the extremely vulnerable as Corrine1 on here has explained. (See above ) Some supermarkets are obtaining a list of peoples names from the goverment . This list will be for people who have cancer or are receiving chemo or have organ transplants. The other people like the disabled, elderly and vulnerable are left out of this list. So if you register with goverment unless you qualify it wont do any good.

15sunbe profile image
15sunbe in reply toCatoutdoors

Yes, I've already understood that - thanks. My point was that Waitrose were being unhelpful, and misleading, and seemed to be trying to fob me off!

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply to15sunbe

Ok I see. Sorry I thought you were wondering how the supermarkets choose people who are vulnerable. I know I wondered about that. Waitrose won't deliver to where I live so I cannot comment but good luck. Looks like we'll all need it.

Due to COVID-19 outbreak, it has really become very difficult to buy essential groceries and medicine. I have not tried Tesco. But I have many times booked home delivery order from sainsburys.co.uk/ and justhaat.com/ before. You can try to book your order with them. I hope it might help.

Catoutdoors profile image
Catoutdoors in reply toMollieRhodes

Hi thank you MollieRhodes. Sainsbury's won't deliver to my postcode. The nearest Sainsburys would be Penrith I think and that's 40 miles away. Thank you anyway. I hope you get on ok during this worrying time.

I know this is two months ago but I want to vent!! Same here in Spain, such a variable response. The place we normally shop, always online, just closed the service. A different bigger store further away has seen us through with a brilliant service, why they can do it when others can't I don't know. They will have all our business from now on.
