Spent £48 for online food shop.

Been charged£4 delivery(am clinically extremely vulnerable and self isolating).

Thought the minimum spend for free delivery was £40.

Asda not responding to query.

Anyone had same problem and if so how did you resolve it.

Many thanks!

Hi ninelives, I've just had a look at delivery charges for each of the big supermarkets at 'Lovemoney' and it states that Asda's charges are actually the cheapest. You may be confused by the term 'minimum spend'. That is indeed £40.00 but that's the amount you need to spend before Asda will deliver to you at all. It's not an indication that there is no charge if you spend that much.

Here's where I looked to find out the information, and you can compare the charges of all the supermarkets there:

Did you know that Iceland will deliver for free if you spend £25 in store or £35 online?

I hope that helps.

Hi Ninelives. It is a bit confusing. Initially Asda did not charge for delivery and packing. The £4 additional charge was for orders under £40 and that has not changed. However, they are now charging for the delivery slot and packing. Hope that helps.

Thank you for that.

Didn't realise they now charge for delivery slot and packing-hubby has worked out it's about£200 a year but guess it's necessary in order to avoid going out at the moment.

Stay safe and enjoy your afternoon.

Sainsbury have cheaper slots. I quite often get one for £1.

Tesco is £40 to get free delivery, but I have never used Asda. Tesco also have a delivery saver service which you can subscribe to, which saves on the 'pick and pack' service.

Waitrose is £60 for free delivery, but I'm no longer bothering with them as there are only 9 stores in Wales and I'm a long way from any of them!

Cheers, Midori

Thanks Midori.

Wish we were more savvy with this internet ordering business!

Waitrose (here) now offer free delivery over £40.

If they are out-of-stock on some items, and the total come to less than the spend required for free delivery - they still do not charge.

You cannot normally find an available slot less than ten days ahead.

My local Co-op is now offering "click and collect".

Thank you for that piece of info; Its nearly a year since I was last in shopping range of a Waitrose!

We are same as you . Had reoccurring slot since March no charge over £40 . Changed day to Saturday evening and first 2 deliveries did not turn up got £5 voucher as Asda said techinal problem but when redelivered on the Tuesday the driver said 4 drivers left when we changed the clocks . Back to the charge it is in to January only next 7 weeks £4 for whatever spend . Perhaps they done it last Christmas anyone know ?
