I got the dreaded tendon inflammation from Cipro, fluoroquinolones. Doing my research on the reaction, I learned that Cipro et al sucks magnesium out of tendons, weakening them to the point of rupture. In PMR it's really just tendons and bursa that are inflamed. So I would think it would be a no brainer, triple Black Box Warning, to never give Cipro to someone with PMR. Over age 60 and taking steroids is the current Black Box. Meanwhile, after learning years ago that PPI drugs inhibit the absorption of magnesium, I never use them at all anymore and rarely need them. Prednisone has never bothered my stomach. So many of us are told to use PPI's by our doctors that it makes me wonder if low Mg in our tendons is part of PMR. My first symptom of PMR was a ruptured hamstring tendon. Maybe we should all supplement plenty of extra magnesium!
