had PMR for almost 6 years. Have been off steroids for about 8 months,. Have had bilateral hip pain on and off that was diagnosed as bursitis, but am now worried about possibly developing a vascular necrosis. So, hove many of you in my age group (mid 70’s) have developed abnormal after stopping prednisone?

Thanks in advance

"hove many of you in my age group (mid 70’s) have developed abnormal after stopping prednisone?"

I'm not sure this is the best place to ask that - simply because most people who get off pred ride off into the sunset and get on with life so aren't represented here. All I can say is that in the 16 years I have been involved with the forums, I could count on the fingers of one hand the number who developed AVN and most have been while on pred.

Why do you not believe the diagnosis of bursitis? And while I hate to say it, 8 months is about the top end of time for the inflamamtion due to a very low PMR disease activity to have built up to a level that could be felt.

Has your GP offered an xRay of your hips or a dexa scan of your bone since you have been on steroids? Bearing in mind of your age it should have been offered to you already.
