had PMR for almost 6 years. Have been off steroids for about 8 months,. Have had bilateral hip pain on and off that was diagnosed as bursitis, but am now worried about possibly developing a vascular necrosis. So, hove many of you in my age group (mid 70’s) have developed abnormal after stopping prednisone?

Thanks in advance

hi

I have been on pred for over 12 years. In 2017 I developed awful hip pain and was told it was bursitis. I ended up having a hip replacement where they found the femoral head had completely disintegrated. I have this theory that it was caused by alendronic acid which I no longer take. Since then I have had x rays and dexa scans and have no other hip problems. I think it is easy to blame pred for a lot of things but for me it is a great help. My back has been in a mess for years and the consultant says the PMR is a stress response to that. I take painkillers but it is pred that helps the most. I hope you feel better soon.
