Cataracts?

Any one been diagnosed with prednisone induced cataracts? Went to the eye dr. 4 months ago and they saw the start of cataracts but said they would keep a watch but they definitely weren't ready for surgery. Went to the eye dr. last week because of cloudish vision and I was thinking my glasses prescription was incorrect. Problem was not the glasses, full surgery ready cataracts most likely caused from the prednisone. Having surgery in less than a month.

Yes my cataracts grew very quickly on pred. especially in sunny weather. No problem now of course in England anyway- sun seems to have disappeared!!!

My prescription keeps changing due to cataracts which are getting worse, very likely caused by pred says my optician. I don't get the cloudiness or other effects though and because of this the cataract consultant implied that I didn't need surgery yet because my vision was good when corrected. It's not worth getting new glasses so I just up my contact lens prescription. The consultant's view (pun) seems to concur with my friends' opinions who say you absolutely know when you need the surgery. So because my vision is pretty good when corrected, despite the cataracts getting worse, I shall keep going with contact lenses for the time being.

There are 2 sorts of cataract - the one that is entirely due to pred is quite uncommon. But the ordinary variety do often develop very quickly if they are there and then you start pred. Lots of people experience it, for some the cataract progresses very quickly, for others it doesn't change significantly even over years. Some opticians recommend using photochromic lenses to reduce the sunlight effect and slow progression of the cataract - it works for some but not others. The operation is magic though!

Thought I was lucky because just before my final tapper to zero I had no cataracts. I had my eyes tested and yup, a cataract. It's taken over 1 yr for it to really start bothering me. I'm refered now to the eye institute. As people say an easy procedure.
