Vomiting

I have been vomiting for 4 days and had loose stools for over a week. I have ony drank water but have managed to keep my 9mgs of prednisolone down. I have ILD and PF and have been coughing. I have pain across my shoulders and am wondering if this is Nova Virus or PMR flare. I am absolutely drained.Regards

It could well be norovirus - the symptoms do all fit and it won't have done the PMR any good either.

It usually lasts 2 or 3 days so if it doesn't start to improve it might be worth asking for medical advice - nothing to do but wait it out really and as long as you are drinking and keeping fluids down that is OK. But if not, you might need a bit of help.

oh that sounds wretched. Norovirus can give you muscle aches even without PMR etc. Also, vomiting is extremely muscle intensive, especially after the first few times. If it were me, if you don’t feel much better by early afternoon I would seek medical advice. Considerations are whether you are suffering from low cortisol too because not all your Pred may have been absorbed. If your adrenal glands are not up to the job of making up the shortfall it can become a medical emergency that the doctor may want to preempt. The problem is that low cortisol can also cause D&V and exhaustion.

Also, if you have had D&V for 4 days, your electrolytes might be out of kilter by now if you have only been drinking water with no electrolytes in it. On top of that you have lung conditions so you don’t know if you’ve have any issues occur from acid/bile passing by your trachea so a listen to your chest would be handy.

Agreed 😊When I had a bad bout of norovirus a couple of years ago, my heart rate etc were all over the place. On call GP sent me to A&E who put me on an anti sickness drip. I was fine within hours - it was the side effects not the bug itself that by then were making me ill.

Oscardoggy , I’d contact a doctor asap if you’re not better today xx

You poor thing. It seems that various bugs are rife at the moment and it seems are a lot worse than last year. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you all for your advice. I had routine bloods taken on Sunday and my CRP was 285 so asked me to go to surgery. She took one look at me said I was jaundiced and dehydrated and needed to go to hospital. So, here I am. My CRP is now over 400. I don’t know what the hell is going on and I feel dreadful. x

Oh dear - obviously not norovirus but the symptoms of something else. I do hope they get to the bottom of it quickly. Do let us know how you get on and get well very soon. xxx
