ER visit severe vomiting and diarrhea,

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Now I’m having the opposite problem-constipation. Discharge orders didn’t give much info on what to eat, no consult with the doctor about labs or instructions on discharge. . Written discharge orders instructions were to start taking a nausea RX and keep hydrated with an electrolyte drink as needed. So I pretty much followed the BRAT diet for 3-4 days that I used for my kids when they were little, (soft foods, bread, rice, applesauce, toast), since read that that diet isn’t recommended anymore, and have had only tiny bit of bowel movement since last Wednesday. Took Milk of magnesia last night and the night before. Now eating usual diet. I’m seeing primary doc today.

No pain or any more vomiting.

This problem is in addition to tachycardia and holster monitor issues from the ER visit, plus eye issues, -worse vision in left eye, some head pain, have me totally stressed out and exhausted trying to figure out what to do first, coordinate everything, and still do necessary daily activities.

I’ll do separate posts for the eye and heart issues. I talked to the ophthalmology triage person yesterday, (never the doctor), and they gave me an appointment for a month from now.

Our system in the US. Is a mess.

thanks for your support.

The reason that the BRAT diet is no longer recommended by SOME healthcare professionals is they claim there is a risk of nutritional deficiencies. I hardly think that is going to happen in a few days! And other health care professionals see nothing wrong with it just because it is old-fashioned.

Is the constipation still a problem? Have you tried lactulose? That is a gentle and recommended approach.

Hi Mstiles. I suffer with constipation and my GP gave me a prescription for Movicol I find it really works. They are powders that you mix with water.
