You poor soul, such bad luck!Have your shoes got a good tread on the soles?Do you use a stick.Just a thought that either might help,xx🌼💐

My shoes were only a month old.The rubber in the front kinda catches though.

I wear trainers in this weather, far safer and the Sketcher ones are trendy.,Even in summer I wear them with shorts!Made a fatal mistake the other day,put my sheepskin boots on with the Cuban heel, never again.,Felt SO unsafe,Got to be careful ain’t we?xx😱🌼🌼😜

Ouch.. but perhaps you need to look at why you are falling - and if you are becoming nervous then perhaps as suggested walking aids and maybe look up some balance exercises online. These for example -

Does your local health system have the equivalent of a Falls Clinic? With multiple falls you should be assessed for reasons and advice on how to avoid them from physios and occupational therapists.

This fall was caused by a plastic bag that blew from under a car.My foot got caught in it.I ll need a wheelchair if this keeps up.Too much stress.Sadly it's around Xmas time.

My late husband attended the falls clinic and on the last day of the six week course he fell in the car park as he was leaving 🙄

Oh dear - not sure what that says about the clinic!

I have to be very aware of my feet because of my glasses, which are progressives.

Which was a primary factor in me refusing to have them!!!

Same.

I can never quite understand why people can't adapt to progressive lenses. I wore mine for the first time and right away they were "my" glasses! I have met people who needed more time to adapt and they were farsighted, so I wonder if after a lifetime of wearing glasses for myopia my brain was pre-adapted for progressive lenses? Thoughts?

Not sure about that…I went from no glasses to progressive lenses in my late 40s with no issues..

Interesting. Do your progressives progress from presbyopia or myopia correction at the top to reading distance at the bottom?

Usual age related issue - presbyopia - and in UK we usually refer to them as varifocal lenses..

I use a walking stick when out and I find it helps as a third leg at times. One day last week I walked on black ice and nearly went over but the stick saved me. It is a comfort to have it. Also very useful at times as it helps me get a seat in buses and trains. And often if in a queue I am taken to the front because of it!

Me too koalajane. I decided for myself to use a stick and I wouldn’t be without it now 😊 It has many advantages as you say x

Maybe you need a walker or rollator? You can borrow one from the Red Cross here in Halifax, to see if it helps and then maybe you can buy one if you find it does. I have two. At the stores though I do find the small carts a perfect height to lean on. It's slippery days coming up and we've gotta be extra careful. I also have osteoporosis, so def couldn't handle a fall.

I know some people use Nordic poles not so much for exercise as for balance. There are also Activator walking poles which can be used to offload weight from legs (e.g. injured knees :D she says from experience) but of course these involve the use of both arms, so a backpack substitutes for a bag. The use of poles, btw, is good exercise.
