Diagnosis Change: No GCA

Hello everyone, I thought I would give an update… I had a lung CT scan in October showing bronchiectasis. A bronchoscopy and biopsy showed haemophilus influenza beta bacteria resulting in pneumonia. I am currently taking doxycycline and amoxicillin and weaning off prednisone. I am starting to improve! My rheumatologist has said I do not have GCA and will now be followed by the pulmonologist.

I’m not quite sure how this all started and I have many questions to ask the pulmonologist. It seems like the inflammation from the lung infection resulted in the head pain that was initially diagnosed as GCA.

I would like to thank everyone and this forum for their knowledge, support, and sharing. This experience has shown me the value of respectfully advocating for yourself with healthcare providers and asking questions. If I didn’t ask my rheumatologist for a lung CT scan, I might still be getting the wrong treatment.
