Update re: groin pain

A week or so ago I asked about left sided groin pain following a fall off a landing. It felt a lot like initial PMR pain but was not bilateral. On your advice, I returned to the hospital to get checked out. Further X-rays revealed a fracture of the pubic ramus which explains the groin pain. I am thankful that I followed your advice rather than treat it as a flare which was my first thought. I’ve been reading posts about tapering and after two unsuccessful attempts to get from 9 mg of Prednisone to 8 mg, I think I will try a slower taper next time from my present dose of 8.5 mg to 8 mg I’ve 7 weeks instead of 5weeks. I will wait until the pain from the fractured ribs and pelvis has subsided before attempting another taper. Thanks for your ongoing help. I am glad I didn’t increase my dose needlessly.

Ouch... I frequently fracture ribs so understand that pain, but the pelvis on top must be really tough. Take is easy as I'm sure you know it only time with these kinds of fractures.

I take co-codomol but only if I'm home for a bit as they zonk me out. A bit of personal TLC me thinks.

Much, much rest needed! My fractures are mainly ribs. All the best for a speedy recovery.

Ouch - but you didn't need to be kept in? Better to know and avoid any risky activity while it is healing. Get well soon.

They rarely keep people in hospital if they can avoid it in Canada. Not enough beds or staff! They gave me pain meds and a walker and there is no treatment; just rest and patience while it heals. I have osteoporosis so ribs will take longer than usual. The doctor stated 10 to 12 weeks. I forgot to ask about the pubic ramus fracture but I expect a similar timeframe. I suspect I will be watching a lot of tv coverage of the Olympics!

Sometimes a pelvic fracture requires total bed rest as non-weight bearing so no other option. Pubic rami fractures are usually quoted as 6-8 weeks.

oh no, strangely a friend a few houses up from me has done exactly the same thing about four weeks ago. I had never come across anyone it happened to before. It seemed horribly painful.
