Advice for a house move

Since early this year we have been busy selling our house and searching for a small bungalow in a retirement complex and we are now about 4 weeks from the move. During the quiet period of waiting for searches etc I succesfully tapered to 2.5mg from 3mg. I have also been very careful not to overdo things (we are downsizing and have had to get rid of a mountain of stuff) and we have asked our removers to pack for us.

However when the move actually happens, I can see us being frantically busy for the few days before and after. So I was wondering if for those few frantic days it would be sensible to go up a few mg?

I think I would, moving is so stressful on many levels. Your own body would be supplying extra Cortisol.

Wishing you many happy years in your lovely new home.

Thank you. Your reasoning makes sense and it will be one thing less to worry about.

I definitely would and pace yourself as much as you can. My own experience was that I developed PMR 2 days after I moved house.

Bad luck. It's the thought of having a flair when I have done so well that scares me.

That's not inevitable, and should you do flare, the it's easily treated - and back to where you were.

We recently did the same thing after 43 years in our house. I was on 3.5 mg at the time, & dealt with the extra stress by taking a vitamin B tablet rather than increasing my pred dose. In NZ there is a vit B combination called Stress formula. You need to take it in the morning, so that it doesn’t keep you awake.

We did the same thing two years ago. Pacing yourself is critical. What does it matter if boxes take a few more days/weeks to open? Take rest breaks as often as you can. Get as much help as you can. If you can have a list of priorities and take it steady. Yes, it will be busy and maybe emotional and stressful but that will pass. I was on 3.5 mg and stayed there. But I promised myself if I felt myself needing to up my pred I would have done so. Good luck and let us know how you get on. We love our downsized and more manageable home - I hope you do too 😊

Thank you. I am so looking forward to getting there. It's in a quiet estate with lovely well kept gardens and a nice community.

I intend to, plus a holiday after a few weeks.

We are in a similar boat and I can feel my energy levels going up and down like a yo-yo. We had a buyer and we found a bungalow we like only to find out that the buyer's buyer had disappeared so we have to start all over again. We are not going into a retirement complex so trying to find an ordinary bungalow which gives us proximity to shops, buses, railway, doctors etc. Not always so easy to find. I'm worn out before we get anywhere near actually moving but we both know we have to. Our village is not well served by public transport.

Good luck with your move and hope all is straightforward and goes well.

I really feel for you. We have been so lucky with no chain at either end, but even so we worried all the way through. And down sizing is so hard (our new property is tiny) so we are having to be really strict with ourselves. I've lost count of how many trips hubby has made to the tip and the charity shop. My next job is to go through my clothes eeek.

We downsized 3 times!!! And it all built up again ... This next time I'm not sure I will want to keep anything!

Last Friday should have been completion date for the flat my daughter was living in - the buyer hadn't sorted his mortgage so we still have no idea what is happening! But that is the money for my granny flat - they are in their house and I have plenty of time.

We found our bungalow by word of mouth - about 50 yards from where we previously lived, but we’d also got to know the local estate agent and kept on their radar. We’re in a village to and there are very few suitable places. We were very lucky and I hope you are. There’s a good Scottish saying ‘that’s what for you won’t go by you’ 😊 good luck

We're exactly the same - bungalow not on the market yet but will be shortly. However, there is some consolation in believing that what is meant to be will be and all for the best.
