Calcium Citrate questions

I’ve been taking Calcium Carbonate on and off for over 5 years but my stomach really doesn’t like it. It makes me gassy and and causes me to have stomach ache. I have read that Calcium Citrate is more gentle on the stomach so I am trying to find what the equivalent calcium citrate is to calcium carbonate.

I’ve looked on Healthunlocked and various sites on Google but the only information I’ve found (which still doesn’t answer my question) is:

Calcium Carbonate = 40% elemental calcium

Calcium Citrate = 21% elemental calcium

and varying amounts of Calcium Citrate to carbonate eg

1000mg calcium carbonate = 2110mg citrate / 1857mg citrate

Does anyone take Calcium Citrate and if so what amount do you take (assuming you are taking the equivalent of 1000mg carbonate?)

Also any advice or recommendations on brand names would be helpful too, thank you 🙏

I'm using Ca citrate at present - OH's leftovers. The pack says 500mg calcium per dose. I imagine all supplements are based on a dose of 500mg calcium.

I don't think you need to break your head over it - go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what they recommend, once you know you can then look for the best offer anywhere.

I have been taking Calcium Citrate from Just Vitamins. I started with 1000mg but reduced it to 500mg. I had my calcium and vitamin D checked before each zoledronic acid infusion and the results were good on 500mg. This was the only Calcium Citrate I could find that didn't include anything else, but I according to the Just Vitamins search engine they do not sell it!! Frustrating!! But if you Google calcium citrate Google finds it for you.

Not what you're looking for?
