Flare , cold and skiing !

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas 🎄. Just looking for some advice - i have started with a terrible cold today, and also think i am flaring up as my shoulders and neck have been really sore for the last 7-10 days, reminding me of the early days. I am off skiing on 30 Dec and wondering what to do. I am on 5mgs and have been for about 6wks. Any advice would be appreciated! Do i jump to 10mg for 7 days whilst away and then drop to 6mg ? And hope my head cold sorts itself out with lemsip! Thanks so much

Have you been skiing since having PMR? Where are you off to?

It does sound as if 5mg isn't QUITE enough - so I would treat it as a flare, add 5mg for a week so take 10mg and then drop back to 6mg. And do think hard whether you are fit to ski before skiing!

Thank you so much ! Yes i have skied since having PMR and just took it easy ( off to France) but wasnt sure combined with the head cold if the plus 5mg was a good idea but i think i need to regardless. Thanks for confirming!

Careful at altitude. And don't know about France but it is ridiculously warm here overnight so the snow isn't freezing overnight and turns into granulated sugar very quickly!!!

Usual advice for dealing with a flare - and agree back to 6mg..

I caught a cold which turned out to be covid, 2 weeks before skiing in France. I felt ok if a bit breathless - not sure if that was simply the altitude but we were at 2300 m at Val Thorens. ( snow was perfect ) . I was really worried about being stiff and or having the strength to get up if I fell over etc having not skied for over 10 years due to PMR. I had some extra pills just in case but didn’t need them. The adrenalin of whizzing down the slopes again seemed to chase the aches away. Either that or the HRT I’ve just started or both. I came back feeling exhilarated. Hope you do too !

Oh wow that sounds perfect! I have just started HRT so hopefully my combo will work too. Thanks so much for replying !
