UTI and microscopic haematuria

After years of recurring uti and a diagnosis of cystitis cystica after camera jobby I was prescribed vagifem. This worked for 7 years until mother of infection which took 2 lots of antibiotics to subside, and has left me with microscopic haematuria. Don't want further tests, has anyone else experienced this? Apologies this is not a PMR question unless the two can be connected? And I thank all of you for being there xx

UTIs can be related to PMR and pred. PMR because the bladder sometimes doesn't empty fully (it's a muscle too) and that stores up bugs over time. Double voiding helps there. And pred because it makes you more susceptible to catching bugs.

Calcium supplements can cause grit to form in the urine - may progress to form kidney stomes if you are really unlucky - or just irritate the lining of the bladder and/or urethra. And THAT could be your link to the CC diagnosis which is often due to mechanical irritation. Peristent bugs can be nicely flushed out of hiding with D-mannose - the active substance in cranberry juice but far more convenient to get it from the pharmacy/health store.

Thank you so much. I had been thinking along those lines but couldn't trust myself! I hadn't made the irritant connection but it all makes sense. Shall relax now 🌼

that’s interesting, do you think Interstitial Cystitis May also be caused by PMR (or in my case RD Stills.)

It can be due to autoimune causes - may even be a/i itself.

I have Intestial Cystitis and have a had a procedure called a Hydrodistention. It has been most helpful. I was on Vagifem for years but my doctor told me to stop because it is an estrogen product and worries about long term use.

A lady gyno suggested estriol applied in the area: it counteracts dryness and UTIs. Estriol USP does not enter the breast and can be obtained online .

I had also taken vagifem but ended up with endometrial hyperplasia from it- a precancerous condition requiring a hysterectomy. Estriol USP is safe.(Per my oncologist)
