Hi there, just wanted to double check, im 2 days into positive result for covid, feel absolutely awful, im hoping all the aches are covid related and /or my upper body is the recovery of my first yoga class in 3 years, last Friday!Im on 4mg pred apparently according to endo with adrenal insufficiency , my question is should I up my pred?
I had just finally eased my awful headaches possibly with Accupunture help, will it mess adrenals kicking back in by upping pred to get through covid?
Many thanks
I'm confused, it doesn't take much ! X

Hi I'm sorry you have covid. I also have addisons disease and when I had covid they put me on the paxlovid. You should consult with endo on increasing of steriod. When I had the flu they increased my steriod.. You have to be very careful not to suffer adrenal crisis. Please take care
Thankyou for your reply I will phone endo secretary tomorrow. I was told I have adrenal insufficiency due to lowering steroids, after I had the synacthen test at 5mg ,I was presuming thats different.
I have secondary adrenaline insufficiency and was going to say exactly the same thing you just did. But I do have a question specifically to you. If you have to go on a high dose of steroid for another reason has such as chest infection how do you taper back down to your lower dose that you normally take for Addison's? When my pulmonologist prescribed me 5 days of 20 mg a day and then stop it without tapering I got very sick. Now I know I have to taper after the 5 days but not necessarily slow like for PMR but over the next couple of days. I wondered how you handle something like this.
I did. I followed the “ sick day rules “ for 2 weeks, by adding 5 mgs to my dose for 2 weeks and then returning to my previous dose. Especially good for you because you know your Adrenals cannot respond adequately to illness. There is more detail in FAQs. I hope you don’t suffer too badly with Covid. Get well soon.🌼
hi Lovetobe! Oh my sincere sympathies go with you. Covid attacked me last October when I was on 5mgs after 18 months of our dreadful disease. Vile for 3 weeks. Upped in our usual way, thank you forum. But I have been left with long covid, quite simply, no appetite. Doctor has suggested I add dry milk powder to everything. I am now a stone lighter than when I started PMR. Now down to 1.75 mgs. We will get better. I am thinking and praying for you.
If I were you I would up my pred for a week or two until you feel better, Even healthy people with Covid feel pretty ropey sometimes, it seems to vary a lot.
Your priority is getting through Covid so see what comes out in the wash afterwards regards everything else. I agree with the advice given about sick day rules. Covid can make one feel absolutely terrible with body aches and severe headache, even if previous infections were less bad; it’s a new variant and other things affect you feel too. The general message that goes round that it’s now like the common cold is really not helpful. Plenty of people still feel very ill.
