Sickness and Pred

Advice please. Have been awake on and off since 4 am and have been sick several times. I’m currently decreasing from 3.5 to 3 mg Pred. Still feeling sick and unable to keep anything down. What should I do about taking Pred. Normally take a dose at around 8.00. Thanks in advance

Can you keep water down? If so, then try and take tablets with just that for today .. and maybe leave until a bit later in the day, say midday -and see if things have settled a bit by then.

Hope you soon feel better…

Many thanks for the advice. I just called the surgery to ask for advice but of course no one was available. I hope the meds do stay down.

They should have at least have put you on a telephone list for urgents?

I have your symptoms too and was beginning to wonder if I needed an injection for Pred. Water only, seems to do the trick and keeping quite still. I take coated Pred which helps, I can’t keep painkillers down.I think it is a virus because I have neck pain and an occipital headache with dizziness. I am on 5 mgs and was attempting to reduce by half a mg. It’s a worry to understand the source of the symptoms. Obviously I worry about my Adrenal system or even a GCA flare. My GP would go down the viral route and possibly prescribe anti sickness tablets. I feel awful but haven’t been sick today and my 5 mg tablet was taken at 3 am, then I slept, so I kept it down. Get well soon, it’s miserable.

Thanks for responding. I wish you a speedy recovery. Whatever this is, it’s not nice

If you are on plain white pred then it only has to stay down for an hour or so to be absorbed. Sorry I'm late to the party - the site was down for a while.

Please don’t apologise. Mine are coated so presumably will take longer to be absorbed. Many thanks for taking time to respond

Yes - they have to get past the stomach so a few hours unfortunately.

It is unlikely you will come to any great harm if you are a few hours late but if you do feel more unwell don't hesitate to call 111 or even 999 for advice and explain that you are a long term steroid patient,
