Now it’s calf pain and covid

Following on from my last post , Monday I got a message from my own GP - blood tests are normal, reduce Pred, which I did to 2.5, where I’ve been comfortable for 2months, not 2mgs to where I’ve recently tapered.

Wednesday, physio appointment (private) for neck and head pains, very reassuring, exercises to do, plus she found some painful points in my neck which is very tense.

Thursday, tested positive for covid, first time, feeling groggy.

Today I have a sharp shooting pain in my right calf up to my knee which has OA. Can walk but stairs, for example, are painful.

My luck has run out! Should I up my Pred (always dreaded getting into a yo-yo situation) or be more worried about calf pain which I hope is just muscular? By the way Paracetamol is keeping my neck discomfort under control.

oh dear 🙁.

Is the offending calf bigger than the other? Is there a particular tender area if you press around it? Any redness?

No difference in calf size, no particular tender area and no redness

Even so, if it’s a new thing it might be worth asking 111 for advice. I’m wondering about clots of course and covid can predispose people to them. It’s in one leg too and they don’t always show up with text book symptoms. Could just from physio but you never know.

This is what I was wondering about, also about whether to follow Sick Day Rules. Now I’ve heard Janet’s experience I think I’ll up Pred by 5 mgs and see what happens, but give 111 a ring tomorrow.

Oh no, if it's not one thing it's another isn't it?

I tested positive for covid on Thursday too (second time). Because I'm laid up in bed I'm following previous 'Sick Day Rules' from Rheumy to increase my pred from 5mg to 10mg for five days. (I also have antivirals.)

Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks for your reply, I wasn’t at all sure about whether to follow Sick Day Rules, but you’ve helped me decide , it’s well worth trying. As you say, there’s always something. Hope you soon feel better.
