Hi
I was diagnosed in January after blood tests but I have just noticed a bright red blotch on left lower stomach, would this be a PMR symptom or side affect of Prednisone? Has anyone else had this? I am seeing my GP in April.
Hi

Really can't think of any reason for PMR or pred to cause that - never had anything like it in all the years I've had both. I did get bright red splotches on arms - many of us do - in the form of purpurae which can be due to pred making the skin delicate.
Could it be a bruise? Or purpura? How large is it?
About 2 inches and on Caesarian scar of 50 years! I did think it may be follicle related or sweat?
Have you put anything on it? I have a hysterectomy scar that’s nearly 40 years old and it occasionally has a minor sore part right at one end.
Is that a vertical scar or a bikini scar?
Bikini
Like DL I get areas that redden on mine - used to be like thrush but it tends to be along the scar, I assume like most of us it forms a crease that gets hot and sweaty or are you slim enough not to?
It could be sweat as have been doing Spring stuff in the garden but not as slim as I was!
Could you have knocked it without realising and it’s a purpura as suggested by PMRpro - harmless but always a bit worrying first time..
is it raised, itchy, sore?
There are related posts you could have a look at - see if anything in them to help. But a bit more info might be useful.
Thank you not it h or sore 🤞🤞
I did get a pattern of bruises on my lower abdomen a few years back. They turned out to be baby kicks from my grandson from when I changed his nappy. We bruise easily.
The same thing happened to me a while back. I mentioned it on this forum even. On the left hand side of my stomach. Oval shaped with rather rough feeling, probably 1-2cm long. Totally painless though.
I get it occasionally along my bikini hysterectomy scar where skin folds over. I Just take extra care drying that area because I can’t see it 🤣 and treat it with Aloe Vera gel.
It’s funny you should mention this as I was just about to post a similar problem.
I’ve had reddish/brownish patches in various places on my body for nearly 9 months now, it doesn’t itch and it’s not raised. It looks more like a discolouration than a rash. It starts off small then starts to spread. I’ve seen a couple of doctors and they have prescribed a cream and a body shampoo neither of which have helped. They thought it could be a fungal infection but no remedy has worked yet so I’m not sure it’s fungal at all.
I’ve looked online but can’t find anything that looks the same. I’ve changed my washing detergent and only use hypoallergenic products. I’m at a total loss now and I’m wondering if perhaps it’s the Pred that’s causing it which I’ve been taking for 4 years now.
When I got to lower dose I got a red blotch on the inside of my thigh.I saw my GP who was puzzled which takes alot then off to dermatologist.
1st it was viral eczema and I fought with it for 8 mos or more and the 2nd biopsy was bacterial.
So 1st cream made it worse.
Never had eczema in my whole life.
Hi Wizards, thanks for your reply. I’m hoping to get a GP appointment and will ask for a referral to a dermatologist. I have had eczema in the past but this looks and feels totally different, it’s not dry and it doesn’t itch. I bought some OTC hydrocortisone to try but it made no difference. I’m on a low dose at the moment 2mg. Hope your red blotch has gone now 😀
As I said it took about 6-8 mos because it happened during covid.Mine to, no itch. They did a biopsy and it didn't say fungal so dermatologist gave me a cream. Didn't work just kept growing bigger, so back and he wanted me on high doses of prednisone and I thought crap but it may work out for another quick tapper. So as I start the high dose regime my 2nd biopsy came back fungal and of course the prednisone will make it worse.
So quickly on another cream and I was able to drop 1mg no problem which saved me almost a 2 month tapper.
The right cream got rid of the majority of it but it took time for the skin to return to color.
It was strange that the 1st biopsy was wrong.
Good luck.
