We came home from Sweden ..(to US). the only ones masked on the plane or in the airport save for a few people I gazed at like kindred spirits... and my husband, whose eyes were not covered by glasses. dang that cataract surgery got covid a week ago. the Sword of Damocles hung over me all week as we went around masked in separate rooms but yesterday I was sick and today testing positive. HE was given Monoclonal Antibody infusion.. and got better the next day, feels much better two days later. I wonder if I should ask for that. I am likely I think to be given antivirals.. (which made me sick once when it was for the flu) anyone know if one is better than another. I am only on 1.5mg prednisone but have been on *much higher tapering for 5 years. ADVICE__??? (If I don't die the trip was worth it! yea!)
COVID ... held it off as long as I could. - PMRGCAuk
COVID ... held it off as long as I could.
You can only ask and see what they will offer. Obviously the MAB is very effective!!!
My daughter had Covid in May/June before she came to visit - and caught it from a patient in the ED 3+ weeks ago. She is asthmatic - but wasn't eligible for a jab so it is nearly a year since the last. The invitation for the autumn booster came the day she tested positive! She tried to go back to work last Monday and was promptly sent home. A short walk yesterday, a shower this morning and she was utterly wiped out both times. 4 weeks ago she cycled 20 miles along the Yorkshire coast. She is not amused.
Oh poor her. I dread that. Just had my booster.
It is what worries me too - having Covid would be bad enough, more fatigue would be a nightmare.
A friend has long covid. She cannot work and she sleeps so much. She is trying everything to get better but so little is known.
You are a cheery bunny!!!!! That is what I'm worried about with my daughter.
Oops. Sorry. This friend is middle aged. That has to make a difference.
What is middle-aged? One has to feel a 40-year old is verging on it?
Haha. Good point. I think of myself as middle aged but of course I am not. I am young elderly at 65.
I think 65 is the top end of the range! That is middle age compared to 90 year olds!!! With a physical age of 70 I have to join the elderly population I suppose - but the brain/mental age doesn't agree!
Oh yogabonnie,
I can't answer your question, but so sorry to hear that. Really frustrating I'm sure. Hope you get sorted out and make a quick recovery. Xxx
oh Bonnie! Sorry it got you. It got me too, a week before Australia. I went through the U.K. process for anti virals and was told that because I was on under 10 mgs, I wasn’t eligible. I am on 6 mgs and 7 mgs for the last 3 days. I think I have residual symptoms, some dizziness and nausea. Family - especially the little ones are very distracting and health giving. Very proud of my DNA. Not sure if the anti- viral drugs would have improved much. Did the sick day rules for a few days. Get well soon!
I am on 1.5mg prednisone and they gave me Paxloid. pills. I haven't increased prednisone think I wont.
Hi Bonnie. I am so sorry. Every one of my clients who traveled came home with Covid. Sounds more like the crowded maskless airports. The only person who didn’t was my cleaning woman who wore a mask and shield the entire time but it was only a 3 hour trip. And she doesn’t wear glasses
I am wondering why they gave your husband MAB because they kept telling us those won’t work for Omicron and they are less distasteful literally than Paxlovid. Last year I tested positive without symptoms in Sept before real Omicron spread I believe and I never developed any symptoms and held on with antibodies for several months even though I was exposed to Covid going in out of hospitals because my husband is quite ill. I would certainly prefer MAB to Paxlovid.
I wonder if anyone has thoughts on this. I was on 2 mg of Pred at the time.
Sending you healing energy!
hi left out that I was given MAB immediately after testing positive and never developed any symptoms other than my elder brain fog!!!
get well soon
Can I ask what type of mask you wore, please? Disposable, fabric, FFP2 or FFP3? We are thinking of travelling soon, but so many returning from air travel with Covid!! Would be helpful to know, & I hope you are both better sooooon!
here in New Zealand they only recommend KN95 or better and definitely not cloth masks
Yes. But in England I would say 90% of people wear no mask at all now in any situation, which is allowed! Other countries are the same, completely free, personal choice! I was watching the womens rugby from NZ & saw the lady who cleaned the rugby ball was wearing a mask, but nobody else! KN95 is the sane as FFP2.
We both had on N95 I am not sure what that is outside the US but supposedly the best. in other countries. BUT my husband took his off to EAT.I took it off to drink a Pepsi which is like not having a mask. It is difficult on a long long trip not to do so. but never again for me. Drink and eat before and then suck it up and sit with that mask the whole time. I think I might have a shield if I did not wear glasses. No one cares anymore. I am SO SO SICK. I can see why this disease kills. Fortunately for me I did get the Paxloid pills. And already feel the tables turning.
Thanks very much, that’s a good level of filtration, equal to our FFP. If you wore those from start to finish of your journey & didn’t take them off to eat and/or drink, that’s sad news, as I would expect that to prevent it, hard luck. Hope you get rid of it quickly!! S x
thanks. problem was sneezing unmasked woman and her sick daughter in seat next to my husband. he told me after he thought maybe the woman next to him had allergies. hahaha. I said good luck with that optimism. Anyway. she wasn't wearing a mask. How CAN obviously sick people not mask up? I love my mask. hides my terrible lip lines. AND one can make unseen faces at awful people and feel quite free! haha.
N95 and FFP2 are about the same. FFP3 masks are the most effective but cost more - not sure what the US equivalent is. They have a tighter fit. Just looked - N99
oh. Sorry, just saw your other message…yes, the instant you take your mask off to eat or drink & breathe in, that’s it…it’s all yours! I have another friend who wore hers when travelling, but then bought a coffee, boarded a train, mask off to drink coffee…Covid two days later (also then remembered there were people coughing a lot in her compartment!) So the thought is, then, that Covid can enter your system through your eyes, unless shielded by glasses or a shield? I’ve never heard of that. I’m so sorry you’ve been so sick, but glad you got the Paxloid pills…I will leave you in peace & a huge apology, I didn’t realise you were so poorly. S x
Did you not hear that at the start? You weren't to touch your eyes with unwashed hands. Because it can enter the body that way too.
Yes, if you touched your eyes…like rubbing the virus in from your hands…but not if you just walk around with ‘bare’ eyes…otherwise lots more people would have worn a shield as well as a mask, I think! Food for thought…
Wonder if wearing specs is a protective factor ...
could help, I uses,,,but space all round where virus could get in…think it would need to be lab goggles, rather than ordinary specs?
My hubby and I are going through the same scenario here in N.C. but without the vacation. He tested positive a week ago. So far I haven’t but it’s nerve racking. He went to CVS for Paxlovid but there were contraindications with his heart meds/statins so received an antiviral only 30% as effective. Even still he’s only had moderately awful symptoms for a 77-year old. My 80-year old sister-in-law got the Paxlovid treatment and did about the same but was in the clear earlier, around day 6. hope you feel better soon.
thank you. I cannot believe they didnt give your husband the infusion like they did my husband. his heart and meds meant no paxlovid so they hooked him up to an iv and the next day he was so much better. Monoclonal antibodies. It is so hard WAITING to see if you get it. Seriously. AND that means a longer isolation for us! good luck. keep me posted. I think if he is clear by day 6 by day 10 you will be SAFE!
