the last 3 mornings I have woken with terrible thigh pain in right thigh, so much so, I can’t stay in bed but neither can I get out. Walking and moving very difficult. Once I’m up and taken painkillers- I’m okay after about an hour. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be related to Pmr? I’ve had no injuries or accidents. It’s the same time each morning about 5am. No problem during the night.

Thigh pain on waking
That sounds awful! The pain may be due to a pinched nerve, sciatica, hip bursitis... doubtful it's PMR but guessing won't solve the problem. For a proper diagnosis you should see your doctor. I hope this is resolved soon for you.
Where in the thigh? Back, front, outside, inner thigh?
It could be due to the PMR - that is about the time the inflammatory substances are taking effect having been shed in the body about 4-4.30am.
it’s the outside mid thigh, yes I didn’t think of that, but did wonder that the time was the same each day, due to see rheumy on the 3rd October. Thanks that’s really helpful
Sounds like trochanteric bursitis which can be part of PMR - it made it almost impossible for me to lie on my side. In the meantime it has been renames greater trochanteric pain syndrome which encompasses the lower back as well.

I too suffer with pain in the hips, first started in my left hip with symptoms just as you describe. The physiotherapist thought it could be bursitis and gave me exercises to do which did help a little although it is now affecting my right hip. I saw my rheumatologist who did not think it was a symptom of my PMR but rather Fibromyalgia so pain killers and exercise was prescribed. I was very reluctant to take pain medication as I feel overwhelmed by the amount of medication I already have to take for the PMR but I have to say it really does help….less pain means more able to exercise, which has to be better in the long run
Hope you get some relief soon
thanks for this, I do find after pain killers and about an hour or slightly more it goes
If the pain killers are working, it does sound like it may not be PMR but something else.
Yes, and it is only one side, although it does completely disappear after a while, not sure if that is because it is naturally disappearing or because of the pain killers. It's very odd. Hmmm.....
Hello Joneskye, what kind of painkillers are you advised to take, with PMR, you are taking prednisone I would think? My dr and rheumy say only think I can take while on pred, is tylenol, which barely gives me any relief
I’m taking pred for the pmr plus Gabapentin for nerve pain. I’ve recently started on dihydrocodeine for the pain which the rheumatologist says is fibromyalgia , I know it’s not for everyone but I have found it to be a great help. I don’t take it every day but definitely when I need it….. even my dog is happy as her walks which had srunk to next to nothing are now getting considerably longer 😊
