Twitching thigh muscle.

For the last couple of weeks I've had a persistent twitching in my right thigh. There is no pain but it's just irritating. Could it be a sign of PMR fighting back as I'm reducing 8.5 to 8 mg? It seems to lessen when I've walked for a while or had some other physical exertion. Last night I was aware of it when I woke up and I think it's getting stronger. I really don't want anything to spoil my daughter's visit from Norway - she's arriving today and going back on Saturday- and I want to be able to enjoy my time with her.

You’ve probably overdone your preparations. There is a certain amount of muscle weakness that goes along with this. I might even try an extra 1 mg, so I can be at my sparkling best for the visit. I hope that everything is fine and that you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy new year! Norway! Wow! That I’d like to see at Christmas.

Thanks for that. Yes, though Christmas preparations can be fun we don't always realise how stressful they are and I suppose the body reacts at its weakest points.

Just a thought. Are you taking extra magnesium? If I don’t take it, I get twitchy muscles. Not so much below roughly 5mg but definitely above that I noticed it. Also potassium, but I take that as a food source rather than a tablet so I don’t get too much which can be dangerous.

Yes, I'll certainly try to increase my magnesium intake. Like you I take potassium as food - in my case a banana a day- as I don't want to overdo it.

Twitchy muscles are very common - and can be due to all sorts of things. I had a couple that would twitch pre-pred but it seemed to calm down once I was on pred. Being dehydrated or low in calcium, potassium or magnesium can all contribute. Or a pinched nerve supplying the area where the twitchy muscle is. I wouldn't be reducing just before xmas and a filial visit! Mind you - when my older daughter visits I need extra pred to deal with the stress...

Thank you for that. I'm going to get some magnesium tablets when my daughter and I go into town today. After all my preparations her main concern seems to be my internet speed - or lack of it! But it is good to have her here. Leg is still twitching though.

My physio says Pred causes tendons and ligaments to soften as well as weak muscles, So it is probably something to do with that. I don't have twitching but I have patchy aches, I find warmth, gentle stretching and then rest helps.
