Tapered down to 8.5mg of pred to see if that's the lowest dose I can manage the PMR but unfortunately not to be. In reality my lowest dose I have realised to my detriment is 9.5mg.
Increased to 13.5mg but not enough so added 1mg more to 14.5mg but still have pains to front ball of joint and to top pointy bit. Am waiting for phone call from GP to arrange xray. Ibuprofen manages pain better than pred but know I can only take small amount of this
This is a dilemma for me and from what I've read on this forum for many more sufferers.

If Ibuprofen is managing the pain perhaps the pred is not helping much. If you are not having PMR problems at 9.5mg you should be able to go back to that dose.
If ibuprofen is managing the pain better than pred it really does suggest it is probably not due to PMR.
As I just said somewhere else., my rheumy uses both an NSAID and pred for up to a couple of weeks but I have to promise to take a PPI with it. I'd go back to the lower pred dose if the extra isn't making much difference. It's such a balancing act.
Stomach protection medication such as omeprazole and lansoprazole. Personally I prefer famotidine - an H2 antagonist - they have different adverse effects.
It was suggested to me by the pharmacist that instead of using ibuprofen tablets, to use the gel, that way it wont interfere too much with the other meds or your tummy
