More than a week ago I strained my left shoulder. It hurt off and on through the weeks. Yesterday I was helping cut up a melon and I heard and felt a very large pop. I almost hit the ground from the pain. I know can’t flex my bicep without pain.
I’ve heard that prednisone makes you more vulnerable to tears.
I tried to find any post about my new dilemma. Can you help me? In two weeks we have our trip to the Rhine River. Thanks for your help.

Well here is the latest update on my issue. Yesterday my bicep was hurting and my husband looked at it and it was bulging. He said, you’ve ruptured the tendon to the anterior bicep. So now I’m constantly using heat and ice and wearing a sling to remind me not to use it.🥴Not much more I can do for it.
I guess my house cleaning of sticky floors will have to wait.
I m hoping it’s better for the trip in less than two weeks.
I’m waiting to get an X-ray. My PA thinks I have a tear but not a full rupture. He is calling in a pain pill if I need it and physical therapy if I can fit it in before our trip. Wants me to ice and heat on my shoulder. Where a sling no more than five days but make sure I don’t sleep with it and do some easy rotation exercises. If it doesn’t improve then have an MRI.
My X-rays showed mild to moderate degenerate changes in my shoulder. It can’t show any tendon damage of course. I’m getting more freedom in its movement but I being careful in using it. At least the pain has gone down significantly. I’m grateful for that!
Sounds like you're on the right path. Reduction in pain say a lot. It's a fine line between using the shoulder too much or not enough while it's healing and settling down again. Throw PMR into the mix and I'm not sure how that affects it!
I had numerous shoulder injuries and torn tendons over the years from heavy labor at my work. The worst was a tendon tear that they had the arm/shoulder immobilized for 3 weeks. Ended up with a "frozen" shoulder and the cure for that was painful beyond words. Wasn't too pleased over that one.
