Does Bromoline actually ease pain?

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has used bromoline (substance in pineapples) in treating pain associated with PMR and OA? A friend of mine has been using it to help with pain in his legs, NOT PMR related. He has been eating pineapple for 3 weeks and his pain has disappeared. I believe it's great for inflammation. You can buy this as a suppliment in the health shop too. Just interested to hear if any of you have heard this? Thanks 😊

Of course your friend does not know if the pain would have disappeared if he had not eaten pineapple! People use bromelain for muscle soreness, pain, burns, kidney stones, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Thanks Piglette for your prompt response. I like pineapple and eating it is no load to me anyway. I was a bit sketchy about my friends information anyway. Thanks again 😊

If it is a good excuse to eat it - nothing wrong with that!!

Indeed PMRPro, agree. I do like it but in moderation 😁

Hi in Carbs though. Raw Pineapple circa 12grams/100 and Dried circa 67grams/100

Oh yes - love it but don't eat it much.

I prefer my Pineapple in a tall glass with plenty of rum (I'll pass on the umbrella) and preferably somewhere sunny.

Pineapple is high in vitamin C, is a good meat tenderiser and also gets rid of plaque and whitens teeth. It also tastes nice!

Good that it gets rid of plaque AND whitens teeth, a plus as well 😁

I did hear a story that some people got lost in some jungle with lots of pineapples and ate them for a month and it rotted their teeth. This is anecdotal so could not be true. I suppose if it is stripping your teeth of plaque it may overdo it!

Full of sugar too and not good for pre-diabetics.

I suppose if there is nothing else to eat!

Possibly not altogether true I'd say. A little now and again is nice tho as long as it is not too sour!

Thank you so much for the ‘scientific study’. It was very informative. I’m not eating pineapple but will give SUPPLEMENTS a try.

Think the supplements are the best way to go in this case to avoid high sugar levels.

Not sure I’d want to be on Pred and eat loads of pineapple just from the point of view of what it would do to my blood sugar. The pain might go but my knees would be knackered from the extra weight, not to mention the effects on inflammation of high blood glucose. Love pineapple 🍍

As a type 2 diabetic in remission pineapple is not something I should eat!

Thanks Koalajane, I will pass this response on to my friend who has type two diabetes and who recommended that I eat pineapple for my pain!! It might give him something to consider 😊

Thanks SnazzyD, hadn't considered that side of it. I don't have high blood glucose but I will definitely keep an eye on things. Love pineapple too!!

Neither did I until I started Pred! Once I knew what was going on, it was simple to avoid.
