Hi all , Has anyone else struggled with these hot temperatures recently ? Does PMR make you more vulnerable do you think or perhaps the pred? Ive been feeling awful even though I`ve been out of the sun . Thank you in advance .

Hot Weather makes me struggle
Yes I feel quite dire! Tired and all joints stiff and hurt. Seems to be worse when stuck indoors than outside where there is a breeze. Read that hot weather makes you swell so you hurt more. Dreading Sunday and Monday.
I’m way sicker in hot weather than in cold. One time on a very hot day in the beach I thought I was having a stroke. Used to be a sun worshipper, now I can’t tolerate it at all. Seems to flare things up snd make me feel fluey. My allergies are worse in the summer which compound things.
Hi Marek1,
We were chatting a little about this in another post yesterday. I'm currently on holiday in Devon where the temperatures have soared and it's been unbearably hot.
I've felt much more fatigued and at times, completely wiped out. Today however, it's much cooler and I definitely feel as if I've more energy and feel significantly 'stronger'.
The heat certainly seems to affect myself.... and some others on here too.
The pred will definitely make you more sensitive to the sun and heat and it's important to protect your skin and eyes.....you'll burn quicker and more easily and you'll be more prone to developing cataracts.
I think it can be either or both - very helpful I know!
One of my favourite programmes is actually a German weather programme and they have a bio-weather forecast telling viewers what condtions are likely to be influenced adversely or not the next day. At present, rheumatic conditions seem better in the morning (coolth) than later (warmth) but most effects are felt when the weather is changing or the air pressure is changing. Warmth is good for RA - but not necessarily for us. I suppose it all depends what other conditions go along with the PMR and pred.
They were talking about this on Woman’s Hour today. People were sleeping outside in the garden, covering themselves and children in wet towels, filling hot water bottles full of very cold water and taking them to bed, it was quite fascinating what people were doing.
I have slept in my old garden but don't fancy waking up to find a fox cosied up to me here.
That is what the presenter said on Woman’s Hour!
...or I will sleep alone but go indoors to find the fox in my bed .. also a real possibility here.
HWBs with cold water was being recommended here yesterday.
It sounds quite a good idea. I stopped using HWBs a long time ago, mine has probably got perished rubber.
A RUBBER one????????????
Aren’t they made of rubber any more?
Think mine are plastic of some sort. Thermoplastic - whatever that is
Mine must be very old, I did not know that technology had overtaken me with HWBs
I have just discovered a rubber one on Amazon!
Yes - tinterweb says they are made of rubber or PVC. No mention of the pottery ones!!!
My grandmother had pottery HWBs and also a rather nice copper bed warmer. That could be filled with ice and rubbed over the bed.
My greataunts had a lovely warming pan. Knicked by the cousins when the last aunt died. My mother didn't get there fast enough ...
Idon;t know what happened to my grandmother’s but I do remember my mother was complaining that my grandmother’s sisters all descended on the house after the funeral and walked off with anything of any value.
I bought some years ago, one for each family member. I have the last remaining one, and it's definitely not rubber, and the only bit which is perishing is a washer which I keep meaning to replace. Otoh I bought a new one for hubby last winter when he needed one for some ache or pain or other, and it is rubber 🤷♀️. Couldn't find the more modern type, which I think might be silicon. Made in Germany.
