oral NSAIDs vs topical NSAIDs

I always wondered if topical NSAIDs were gentler on the body than oral NSAIDs. This is an interesting article: detroitnews.com/story/life/...

I have to confess to never yet found any pain relief from topical products - except capsaicum but I suspect that is more the transferance of pain principle!

I think the primary concern is the area involved - but I suppose the price would dissuade you from using too much!

Having managed OA for 40 odd years I have yet to find a topical product/creams that had any favourable impact whatsoever. However, I not used them in recent years so I guess they may be more effective now.

Ha, knew that one was going to come back at me and no I haven't because I haven't needed to in recent years. My OA has, on the whole, been very well behaved and I've not needed anything different to present medication. Given the recommendations it gets here I would try it if/when neccessary.
