Topical pain relief

A couple of weeks ago I had a swollen top to my foot. The swelling has gone but the top of my foot is still painful and limiting the distance I can walk. Please does anyone know of an effective non steroid topical cream or spray? I did have a look in faq’s but didn’t find anything. Thanks with fingers crossed 🤞

You can use any NSAID cream that contains Ibuprofen - sparingly...

Hi Mazeyq, I have a similar problem. Several years ago the top of my foot was very swollen and even after the swelling reduced, remained sore. I had to be very careful to wear shoes with a low front which did not press on that area which helped a lot. Eventually things improved. Now I can get away with laced trainers if I leave the laces looser over the top. Sometimes the pain is now felt in the sole of the foot if I bend my foot back, when kneeling for instance. This might seem obvious but I just find being very careful has meant it has gradually improved.

Thanks Rache. Guess I’ll just have to be careful and patient. It makes me feel soooo old though🙁

I use volterol gel as prescribed by GP, a weaker version is available off the shelf. Read the information fully! I use foam powder puffs to pad my feet and this makes trainers and the like just tolerable and reduces my pain and limp. The fuller the shoe the better as low fronts pinch, rub and press. A 3cm rigid sole wedge has provided the best results. Reiker have a good range.

I have used lidocaine patches for foot/ankle pain before. They do a good job for me. The roll on doesn't seem to work as well, though.

I hadn’t heard of lidocaine patches. I’ll try absolutely anything to be able to get walking properly again. Thanks so much.
