As there was a bit of a to do about them saying I was a no show for my test in November I contacted them Friday and they gave me an appointment for tomorrow but then panicked as I had no instructions pre test. looked on the internet which said leave off calcium vit D for 24 hours in one place an d 48 in another. so I did, now am panicking if I shouldn't have made a decision, just gone ahead blindly taking them. Any suggestions please?

The reason for not taking the calcium tablets is that if they are present without being broken down in the GI tract they can interfere with the reading on the dexascan. Not taking them for a day or two - or more - won't make any difference to your bones at all.

Thank you so much, I felt after reading it on the internet I was doing the right thing leaving them off and it was just the fact that the woman probably decided I had had the instructions in November I didn't need anymore, I could tell she didn't believe me when I assured her once more I never received the appointment. And she then said did I want to reschedule. I just was a bit worried they would say I shouldn't have left them off. No I wasn't worried about my bones disintegrating. I'v been pushing for the test as I would rather not be on AA but my dr assures me I might have to go on taking them for a long time till the steroids wear off. So, no 10 points for the questionaire about how they did this time at the Hosp.

I wasn't informed about not taking adcal for either of my scans. Scan itself was a matter of minutes. travel to site - nearly 4 hours round trip!

No, funny enough the Eye section got a 10 for the excellent reaction to my seeing rainbows around lights and my raised eye pressure, have had one steroid induced cataract off and possibly that is it as I now have one good eye. Now the Gynoc. section for the prolapse is another thing, that is a bit of a muddle, given an app for Gynoc. then had it taken away as the correct pathway is through Physio it seems. That is all ongoing after a year, so the prolapse has gone as far south as it can no doubt.so they won't be up in the higher numbers either. I assured them recently a few exercises wouldn't do it. Still I'm doing well battling on 3 1/2 mgs of steroids gives me something to take my mind off other things. Not that my mind is much good for anything these days.

Yes - daughter was sent for physio for a repeatedly dislocated knee. Until I was with her at A&E after taking her over (40min drive to the nearest A&E of any sort). The A&E doc said physio - and I jumped in to say that had already been done a few times. So she was finally referred to the knee clinic - x-ray showed position of the patella, MRI confirmed that physio could never reposition that patella, it needed surgery! But that had to be done to reset the pathway. Physio is pointless after a certain point. She has had 10 years of peace - until last week when she turned wrong and it popped out again. She didn't have to wait in A&E though - she was at work. In A&E ...

I am glad you have got a Dexascan finally. Don’t worry too much about it. It is a simple scan and takes a few minutes. I have never been given any instruction except turn up on ….. at …..

No instructions for me either, I’m thinking it can’t be that important or surely I’d have been told not to take my calcium tablets. 🤔
