5th Covid jab???

Just received a message from NHS Vaccine, "our records show you are eligible for a Covid 19 booster vaccination but have not yet had one, blah blah blah! So, checked the NHS app which clearly shows that I had it in January. Therefore, I have had 4 vaccinations so far. Is there another one due???

Hi JanboC,

Yes....if you're in the appropriate category and been notified, then you are now eligible for another booster (a 5th vaccination) I think there has to be 6mths between the 4th and fifth one so I won't be able to have mine till end of July.......although I may consider delaying it till September to coincide with the colder weather and advent of winter.

Look under V for Vaccinations in FAQ's. All the up to date info you need there.

Another advantage of delaying until September is that they may have improved the vaccine against omicron by then.

I had my 5th on Tuesday and it was exactly 3 months after my 4th.

Official reply -

“How to get your spring booster

You will be contacted by the NHS and invited to book your spring booster when it's due.

You may be offered appointment dates from 3 months (91 days) after your last dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. But try to book an appointment around 6 months after your last dose to get the best protection from your spring booster.”

That's where I've got confused. Thanks DL. 👍

No need to wait for 6 months, you are allowed your booster after 3 months. Mine is booked for Saturday and the last one was on 4th January. As I had a 3rd primary this will be my 5th.

Thankyou. I'll look into mine now as my 4th vaccination was end of Jan.

Haha!.... I've somehow lost my way on this one...usually much more clued up!

Easily done. I thought I would have to wait until June and then thought "Spring" would be over by then so the vaccinations would have shut up shop. Can't recall where I picked up the 3 months from, must have seen it somewhere. Anyway NHS has started texting me about it recently. There are fewer "walk-ins" available now, only at certain centres so I had to book.

But the question is: do you WANT it as soon as 3 months? They are being far more reticent here as there is some evidence that too many jabs actually reduces the response in some ways.

Well, l’m currently not pushing it myself & l don’t qualify yet any way….

Hi, Have spoken to 119, very helpful and have confirmed that I am eligible and can have it done 3 months after the 4th one. Which takes me to 5th May. He did a dummy booking for me and the dates available automatically jumped to May! Thanks for your assistance and to everyone else for their replies. This has put my mind at rest.

I'm considering not getting the jab anymore at all. I've had a relapse twice now and I don't know if it's worth it. I don't really go anywhere much, when I do I wear a good mask and I have my "bubble" of people I hang out with. My Rhuematologist said that she has had several of her patients have relapses after getting vaccinated. I wonder if it is just on this side of the world? Or just Moderna?

I don't know if this is relevant to your situation but I've heard it's best to get a different vaccine if you've had several of same type. Certainly with Pfizer we are seeing law of diminishing returns kicking in. When they open up here to second booster I will make a real effort to get something different. Don't know if Moderna would be best for me, or something which is not mRNA at this point. Apparently Novavax will be available soon, but I know nothing about its effectiveness against recent variants, what possible side effects it has.

My flare was after the second Moderna - I was fine with the next jab from Pfizer. But if a vaccine causes a flare - I hate to think what a real infection could do. Either way it is because the immune system is being poked at. I am hoping to get another - it is nearly 6 months since the last as Italy has very different rules about who gets what.
