Colds while on pred

Hi.was just wondering what u can take,for a cold while on pred.am on 6mgs.been pred for2yrs now.thanks.hope you are all well.

You'd be ok with paracetamol but I would ask my pharmacist for his/her recommendations. What are your symptoms, Flosys?

Pleased to hear you're a little better. Follow others' advice for plenty of fluids and rest and DorsetLady's suggestion to take a lateral flow test for your own peace of mind.🌻

In similar position to you … and following PMRPro’s German recommendation to take to the bed. I did just do a LFT to be sure, but it’s not Covid. Hope you’re right as rain soon …( where does that expression come from? )

I did nothing special and only took paracetamol if I needed to sleep. I didn’t routinely reduce a fever unless it went over 39/40C either because they have a function. Personally I didn’t routinely increase my Pred at low doses unless I felt my adrenal glands weren’t coping. I got to know the feeling for that; you don’t normally get a feeling of impending doom with a cold!

Paracetamol-and plenty of fluids. But do test yourself for covid (if you haven’t already) omicron symptoms are very similar to a cold.

I take the same as I would without pred - nothing. I don't think any of them are worth it. Having a temperature is the normal reaction to an infection and actually helps the body fight it off. It needs to be a high temperature (40C and over) before you need to worry about it.

Paracetamol and paracetamol-containing cold remedies (just an excuse to charge more) are OK if you find they help with the symptoms but be very careful about the total paracetamol dose you take if you combine them. It is recommended that older users (over 55 or so) should not exceed 3000mg per day. There is a very narrow borderline between a therapeutic dose and an overdose of paracetamol and it can cause liver damage very easily.

Lots of fluids and rest are the best weapons - the Germans head for bed and treat it as a proper illness!

I take whisky, drambuie, blackcurrant juice and hot water!!! If you put it in the micro wave you can dispense with the hot water!
