I fought taking something for low bone density from prednisone. Asked my PC if I could try calcium and vitamin D first because I was so afraid of the side effects. I regret waiting now because things got worse. I talked it over with my dentist and she set my mind at ease by telling me she had many patients who took Alendronate with no problem.
I hate taking it but just do it because it has to be done. You lose the apprehension after a while. My doctor said even taking it for a short time helps.
There couldn't have been anyone more afraid than I was. I still want to stop it as soon as possible. It's been a year now. I read somewhere that you should stop after three years.
Good luck!

I have a sneaking suspicion that medics prescribe biphosphonates to make sure you get off prednisolone ASAP. 😂 I’m taking Risedronate 35mg and hate it.
I took Risedronate for 5 years up to the end of last year. I'm waiting for a tooth extraction that I couldn't have predicted (abscess followed by failed root canal work). My dentist says I'm low risk for osteonecrosis, as I took an oral bisphosphonate, not infusions. Fingers crossed!
Best wishes to you and take care of your teeth and gums!!
