As a promised update to my previous post after 12 hours I contacted 111 again querying why I had heard nothing by way of follow up from my consultation and was put through the process again. This time I spoke to a Dr who spent real time ascertaining what was happening with me and immediately sent an electronic communication to my Pharmacy regarding antibiotics whilst I was on the phone. Antibiotics do nothing for viral infections but will prevent an overlapping Bacterial one and it seems the anti virals are being rationed for the near dead. Leaving aside the rare and astonishing prescience shown by acquiring the Astra Zeneca vaccine early it seems we have returned back to our usual policy admirably demonstrated throughout our history of waiting patiently until the horse has bolted and then hysterically chasing after it.

Never lose that sense of humour, it will get you through! 😄
What goes around comes around 😉. It will be fun writing history books for the next generation to unpick at A-level time.
I await the next instalment of the saga with keen anticipation as laughter is said to be the medicine and I feel better each time you post, thank you.😉
🤣 Will look out for further instalments! Seriously, hope you feel better soon 💐
At least you haven't lost that sense of humour.
If you do , send in the troops to your nearest Covid centre to storm the barricades and retrieve your anti viral drugs as loss of comedic abilities must be a sign of near death and requires immediate attention.
hope you feel better soon.
oh, what antibiotics did they give you ?
😂😂😂😂🐎🐎🦄💂💂💂
Amoxicillin which I was told Is not recommended to take in combination with Methotrexate, useless, utterly and totally useless.
Technically, NO antibiotic is to be taken with the MTX - you should stop it while taking the abx or even while you have an infection of any sort. Including, of course, Covid. However mild ...
Thanks at no other point have I been given that advice despite having been prescribed Amoxicillin on a number of occasions by clinicians who have my history, tooo late.
You should have been told when you were started on MTX! Not dangerous I don't think - just the abx won't work as well. If you have an infection stopping the MTX gives your immune system a better chance to fight it off.
Maybe I was but to be honest I don't remember as when the related condition manifested I was bombarded with Dieticians, Physiotherapists, Oncology and the Chemo "Fog", Dental extractions, Rheumatology, Ophthalmology, Gastro Intestinal surgery, Colonoscopy, CTI scans, PET scans, X-rays, Pharmacists, Ant and Dec and armfuls of leaflets. It should never be assumed "You would have been told so you should know" , this Dr from the Covid team told me about this but no other over the past three years despite several prescriptions of Amoxicillin has and to me a cursory glance of a persons current meds prior to prescribing is a reasonable precaution to take to avoid contra indications.
Oh I know - and why everyone really needs a buddy to listen to the doctors and ask questions. It's a different matter with chemo doses of MTX but with the rheumatology low dose stuff there should be a basic crib sheet - and I know that too many doctors just say "take MTX and it will get you off pred" and leave it to the GP to write the script and sometimes do the blood tests. I didn't mean YOU SHOULD know because you've been told once - things just don't register!
I wasn't told ANYTHING when started MTX. The consultation ended after 30mins, and then I was shown the door!
Really NOT good enough. You should have had a session with a rheumy nurse at the very least to discuss the use of MTX. To know about blood tests before and during management. I'd be making an official complaint. Covid or no Covid ...
You CAN replace the buddy with a recording of the consultation - tell them that you need it because your memory isn't up to it and you also don't hear that well. Play the pathetic card ...
No that's right, you can feel quite lost and powerless and on top of all that they will also try and get you into some research project when you are utterly baffled, that's what happened with me whereby the power of the Chemo was increased but with fewer doses with randomly computer selected options of surgery and immunosuppressive treatment added or if the computer says no they weren't. I think it was an experiment to test the effectiveness of immunotherapy given in conjunction with standard treatments against Cancer, commonly given in the States. In hindsight I wonder whether that higher dosage more frequent Chemo set my immune system into overdrive that caused the Cytokine storm that blinded me in one eye and resulted in GCA. I will never know and I signed up to it so there's no recall but some care pathways are driven by other agenda's.
Which is hardly informed consent is it? Their ethics committee might have been interested ...
When OH had cancer first time round he just turned in on himself and I was the ears and fought the battles with the GPs - once and once only. After that I told the oncology staff any problems and they went over the GP's head. Shouldn't have been so intransigent ...
Intransigence or hubris, my God I have talked to one or two of those, utter vanity.
Quite - my GP practice in Scotland had a couple of unbelievable egoists. The senior partner eventually did me a favour and threw me out - I'd only stayed because OH felt indebted to them - why lord only knows since they refused to provide drugs for him in liquid formulation, claimed they didn't exist (I had checked in BNF before asking) and never visited him. And NEVER in 9 months of chemo, majory surgery and radiotherapy for OH and his mother's death did any of them ask how I was! After the surgery I did ask if they could check me out, I was SOOO tired, he took my BP and said "what do you expect?! No help, no care, no sympathy. When I transferred to the practice in the other village (I did warn them that I asked questions) Hamish would call in to see how OH was if passing even though he hadn't yet moved his allegiance! He did after that. The only decent doctor in the first practice had also been chucked out because he was having it away with the senior partners missus! Can't imagine why she spread her wings
That is awful, truly awful but goes to show that you should never assume they know what they are talking about and just glibly "Know your place". Some of them behave like Dickensian caricatures but are so inwardly fragile they use that little power to just dismiss you off the practice list for exercising your right to ask questions. Any confident Dr would discuss rationally why they have decided on a treatment path and listen to concerns, it's part of the job apparently.
This made me laugh out loud, thank you!
