I’m waiting for 9am to telephone the help line to see if I qualify for the anti viral drugs

It’s a long time since I felt this rubbish 😒

Hard luck - it still seems to affect some people badly, My male cousin was pretty unwell and for a long time - his wife who caught it from him was fine. And another friend caught it on holiday in Spain and has been really unwell.

It’s so frustrating that I managed to avoid it all this time but then none of us are immune - and while we are taking pred we are even less immune🤪

Sorry to hear you are so unwell. I was given the infusion of antibodies at the hospital on day 5. This was a few months ago. Thankfully I wasn’t feeling too unwell. The infusion made me feel unwell that evening and overnight but I was fine the following morning. Hope you get your anti virals and that you feel better soon.

I’ve just heard back from 111 and apparently someone will contact me 24-48 hours from now regarding treatment

That’s good news. I would advise calling them back if you don’t hear anything in 24 hours though. I was told that the anti viral infusion must be given within the first five days.

It’s near 23 days since I was diagnosed positive.

I am still feeling exhausted, coughing, pains in my lower back …I have loss of appetite due to debilitating nausea every time I eat something.

My head aches and I hope this awful virus is going to pass quickly.

It maes me so cross that people forget about the elderly folks.

Hugs! Have you at least lost weight (if you needed to that is)?

Yes I’ve lost a lot of weight. I can’t look at food. At least there’s a good side for some 🤣

Could your symptoms amount to long covid?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toAnniesRyder5

Not long enough really - more than 8 weeks, some say 12 weeks. It is a serious viral illness - takes a long time to get over proper flu too

Most definitely

I had it a few weeks ago, lasted 20 days. I qualified for the anti-virals being Extremely Clinically Vulnerable but the Dr on the NHS Helpline said I didn't need them as symptoms were mild. Best advice I can give is rest. rest and more rest, don't set the alarm if you don't have to as you can't go anywhere anyway

AnniesRyder5 profile image

So not only is Covid random but so is the treatment! Where do you live?

tangocharlie profile image
tangocharlie in reply toAnniesRyder5

Leeds. Yes the Covid was random, some days I'd feel pretty good, the next totally wiped out by fatigue. Thinkn am over it now though, no long-covid, but it has taken about 4 or 5 weeks altogether

I must admit that I find it very annoying that this doctor caused your symptoms to last longer than necessary.

tangocharlie profile image
tangocharlie in reply toAnniesRyder5

I doubt it tbh, I don't think the anti-virals would have done anything and in fact have heard many tales of rebound where people get the symptoms back when they finish the anti-viralsls. What probably made it last longer was because I'm on hihg steroids and at the time methotrexate, which suppreses the immune system so your body probably takes longer to reover. I can't see how anti-virals would have hlped tbh, my understanding is they are for when Covid is strong or escalating out of control. As far as I know, here is no connection with them preventing long Covid either. But I'm no expert

It has been said that vaccination reduces the risk of developing long Covid to about half but one study found it reduces it by only by 15%

"The team found that being vaccinated reduced the risk of experiencing long COVID symptoms six months after diagnosis by only 15%."

healthpolicy-watch.news/974...

Interesting article altogether really - thoughts Paxlovid MIGHT be a treatment for long Covid.

I've often wondered whether anti-virals might help PMR which is why I was willing to try Hydroxychloraquine last year, but in the end opted to try methtrexate instead. As SM says, you never know until you try somethng, what doesn't work for some might work for others. Not researched it really but did find this which mentions IL-6 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/854...

Having had the Covid virus once how can you avoid catching it again ?I was one of those people who mentally mocked those who wore a mask everywhere - not anymore!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toAnniesRyder5

I fear you probably can't. They very cheerfully had the local virology guru on the news last night telling us that if you get Omicron you can only expect to be immune from another infection with it for a month - especially with the B5 version. There will never be herd immunity with it ...

Avoid people! I asked a friend how she thought she'd got Covid and she said 'well , as I'm not in the habit of licking doorknobs I guess somebody breathed it on me'.

Well folks

The long corona virus certainly takes it out of you.

I’m still feeling really *icky* yesterday I went to give in at my local clinic a mid stream urine test.

I felt so weak and vulnerable ..made it home again and went straight to bed. Slept the whole day on and off.

Today the long Covid has made me feel nauseous the whole day today.

I really hope this virus will disappear soon …

My children are contemplating putting me in a nursing home. OMG

OMG indeed - though being waited on with a short-term stay does appeal!!!!

Update- I need to pick up antivirals tomorrow - possible downside is diarrhoea and nausea 😝
