5th covid vaccine

Hi everyone,

My husband has myasthenia gravis and common variable immune disorder, he has just received a letter stating he now needs a 5th vaccine and he is now being sent pcr test to do at home.

I myself have had a letter from rheumatologist to say I need 3rd vaccine but so far nothing else. Does anyone know about this.

Not heard about ‘5th’ has he had his 3rd & Booster?

Yes he’s had 3rd, but nothing else so far.

I’ve had 3rd booster but have been told I need another vaccine in April.

I think a bit of wait & see might be the best route - we’re on the pulse here - just spoken toOur GP Practice - they knew nothing about these letters going out today

Like they didn’t know about 3rd Vaccines until l told them about it & sent them the info 🤦🏻

My surgery has solved the problem by saying they have nothing to do with Covid!

They are none to keen on doing blood tests! They are quite happy if you want to go privately. I have a strong suspicion if they recommend a particular consultant they may get a thank you at Christmas!

Oh I agree, my doctor knew nothing about 3rd vaccine until rheumatologist sent a copy to him.

I truly cannot see how they can be accurate - you have to be a masochist to shove the swab where it needs to be!

I never understand why you have to do that, when you can catch it from being within 2 metres of someone!

Because to do the test you need a decent sample - and you probably don't need to be quite as vicious with the swab for Omicron as you do for Delta - Omicron likes the bronchi and upper airways, Delta heads off lower down. That is part of the reason Omicron spreads more easily ...

I’ve done it, no more than lft apart from putting the swab at the back of throat where tonsils are or were.I was negative.

I know I wouldn't be able to. I also had two relatively invasive rapid tests, each test more painful than the one before. I swore I would never have another unless ordered to. The home tests we are getting now are a piece of cake by comparison.

I think if you do it yourself you don’t put as much pressure up your nose and at the back of your mouth, it’s still the same test but less forceful, we ourselves know what hurts and it doesn’t have to be painful.
