Was diagnosed last July with PMR and went on prednisone. Was told by rheumatologist to have Reclast injection which I rejected and became very concerned about bone health since I have osteopenia. I have recently been reading about the affects of taking SSRI’s on bones. I have taken Lexapro for over 20 years and was told it was fine to take. Here’s info for others that may also need insight

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... This is the link and it’s working but wonder if something is different because of US site vs. Britain? I’ve had trouble getting to links also from this site. Anyway, there’s several studies that’s showing SSRIs may be bad for bone health which was new to me and wanted others to be aware.
I have osteopenia - it is a broad church, ranging from almost normal to almost osteoporosis. What matters is where you are on the scale, so knowing the t-score s important. And loss of bone density is not inevitable - mine had hardly changed in over 11 years on pred, most of it at above 10mg/day, and is still well within acceptable limits.
