Leeds Ilkley Yorkshire Support Group Meeting

We had our first face to face meeting in Leeds Community Hub Yesterday. Its been two years since we last met. There were 8 of us who could make it. The room was a good size for discussion but the acoustics and lighting were a bit harsh. The café next door is great for lunch. One of our group shared an app called Sleep School as a lot of PMR/GCA people have difficulty sleeping. There is a yearly subscription fee for this. Its about retraining your brain to switch off. The amygdala bit apparently. Initially there is 6 weeks of daily activities to start you off and video's to watch throughout the programme. Guy Meadows, a sleep phycologist is the creator. The app also has courses on mental health, anxiety and health worries. The person who introduced us to the app and explained the different functions gave us positive feedback . But we are all different and what works for me might not be your cup of tea.

Hi, Have just discovered the PCR/GCA site and interested to see there is a Leeds/Ilkley support group as that is local to me. How can I join and can you let me have details of any forthcoming meetings. Many thanks

I've tagged your reply to 2 of the heavily involved people in case Estellmac doesn't see your query

All the groups are listed on the support site with a contact and I know a Yorkshire meeting was mentioned in the last week - ah York was cancelled!

Go to this page

pmrgca.org.uk/get-support/g...

and scroll down, last listed in the right, click on it and you get to this page

pmrgca.org.uk/author/yorksh...

with phone and email contact details, and the intended dates for the next meeting in Leeds and Ilkley. There is also a zoom meeting.

We've duplicated our reply - never mind! Do you think you might come.....?

I could have done the York meeting but there is a post to say it is cancelled. By the 9th April I'll be in Scotland and by May will be home here. Have you been involved in the medppibr stuff? I'm in Leeds a week on Tuesday for that, all been well and the creek don't rise ...

Rugger in reply toPMRpro

I'm sure the York meeting on 25th will go ahead - it was 3rd March which was cancelled. I will check with our York 'leader' and let you know.

I will be at Jimmy's a week on Tuesday, so look forward to meeting you then.

Hi and welcome. Thank you for your interest.

The Charity's website gives a list of Local Support Groups and if you scroll down to the bottom, we are there: Yorkshire! pmrgca.org.uk/get-support/g...

You should see that the next meeting is in York on 25th of this month; then Leeds on 9th April and Ilkley on 13th May. There is also a monthly Zoom meeting on the 3rd Thursday.

We ask that you email us to let us know you'll be coming (although it's not essential and many people just turn up). yorkshire@pmrgca.org.uk

Email anyway and ask Yvonne to put you on the Group's mailing list, then you'll get notification of all the meetings and any opportunities to participate in research etc.

If you are not a member of the Charity, you can join for £22/year. pmrgca.org.uk/get-involved/...

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

No - it was cancelled for this Monday, 3rd, but is re-scheduled for 25th. Talk about juggling plates!

Oooh - York on the 25th COULD work I think - didn't register that ... Quick nip over from Whitby and head for Scotland on the 26th ...

Pfft - I have spent SOOOOOOO much in the last 2 months here for this wedding I can't afford any more!! Hate shopping!!! Even food shopping ...

Estellemac profile image
Estellemac in reply toPMRpro

I have just upgraded to a new mobility aid that I thought would be easier to navigate in shops. Maybe after a years training it might!!! Shops would be great without people. Two thoughts here. ONE: I now embrace internet shopping and will commission my family to get me (and Parker he is not a shopper never has been) an outfit for the Party of the Year in August if they dont want us to come like street dwellers. TWO: They don't need your money to Inherit. Spend spend spend. That's my new mantra.

"They don't need your money to Inherit. Spend spend spend. That's my new mantra."

I am slowly getting my head around that - though they are likely to benefit from me spending on me, strange as it sounds!!

My daughter said I could come to her wedding in jeans as long as I was there - it was at a particularly low point of PMR! However - the outlaws for this effort seem a bit picky. I am fairly happy that what I have got will be worn again afterwards so it isn't really UK style (if that is the right word for some of the gear I see for MOTB, at least I'm only step-gran of the groom).

I have glitzy trainers for footwear - couldn't find wellies. The wedding is in Flamborough. The first week in April - I ask you!!

Estellemac profile image
Estellemac in reply toPMRpro

Wellies and Trainers are quite trendy and glittery. However I think Wellies might be a bit sweaty for the evening do. Some brides these days have loads of dresses for weddings. I think one for each stage of the nuptials. MOTB's could too?

I myself will just be arriving at our venue smiling my in-laws in their gorgeous haute couture (they are french) and then running away (so to speak) after dinner in the trusty new chariot. I could have a new hip by then so I might get a fair bit of space to myself early doors by offering to show them my operation scar? Failing that I have had most my insides out at this age and do have other options. My eldest son whose party it is will probably do an NDA for me and my other son to ensure good behaviour from both of us.😂😁. We are not very people friendly. Parker will feign deafness by staring in to space rather than engaging in conversation.

I do hope you have a great time and your daughter has a wonderful wedding.

PMRproAmbassador in reply toEstellemac

I was thinking of the wellies for the church - though probably need my snow boots for warmth and I think they are waterproof, My house shoes are very pretty to change into for the later events.
